hi..i picked out a 2mo old kitten at the shelter and they were going to do a spay on her before i bring her home.well, they called me and said she had been shaved already ut the vet found her tummy was bruised so they werent going to do it.yet. now they just called and said i could bring her home until they find out how her tummy is doing, and then spay her. they said she was a stray. some one had found her sitting in a snow bank. im going to get her. she was there a week and no one adoptedmher. she is just precious, and playful, and she purrs like she has a motor running. what do you guys think of this?

They are doing the right and very responsible thing. Evidence of bruising on her tummy could mean that she was kicked and might have internal bleeding. Just be patient and glad that you have such diligent people working on her.

Glad to see a question from someone who's already done the responsible thing and gone to the vet. :) X-rays are definitely standard procedure for cases like this, but they would have required permission from your father. If he doesn't know about any x-rays, then they probably weren't taken. A broken tail might have been missed on physical exam if the bone was fractured but not displaced. An x-ray would be more likely to find that sort of injury. At any rate, that kind of break would just be managed with pain relief and time to heal. Did the vet send home any painkillers? It sounds like your kitty could use them. It's good that she stayed at the vet for observation—you can at least be confident that her lungs weren't damaged and there was no internal tearing or bleeding.

You need to take her back to the vet and have them run some bloodwork. While it is possible it was an injury, bruising is also a sign of clotting disorders. Being that she is a stray, its possible she somehow got into rat or mouse poison, which literally causes an animal to bleed to death internally. I hope its just from an injury, but I would want to make sure it couldnt be anything else. If it is a rodenticide poisoning time is of the essence in treating it.

aww..she probably just got bruised being a stray and all..there are some cruel as* people out there so i am not surprised if she is alittle bruised up..keeping her at the vet is a good thing..at least you know she is at a place that can medically take care of her if something goes wrong with the bruised site..but i am sure she is going to just fine if you can take her home..give her lots of love and kisses...

Might want to take her for an ultrasound to make sure all is ok with her tummy. I hate people who hurt poor animals who dont have a voice. Infuriates me. Way to go for taking her in. I agree with other posters, dont spay till about 6 months.

Good for you for taking her in. I guess it is good that the vet would not operate if he was not sure. What if he did operate and something bad happened. I would be glad if my vet stopped and my kitty lived. He probably could not see the bruising under the fur, it could be internal bleeding of some sort, so it is good they waited.

I think the jerk that kicked her deserves to have his kneecaps removed - with much force and a dull spoon.

I also think you're great for taking her in. :) Most vets don't recommend having a cat spayed until she is at least five months old...so be glad you have the extra time while she heals.

2 months is way too young to spay. Don't know about the bruising. Hope things go well with her.

I think that the kitten is well on her way to a much better life with a wonderful new owner to care for and love her. Good job adopting!
