I have a puppy who has just been given his 3rd distemper/parvo shot and now he has a lump on his back near the injection site. I'm wondering if this is normal or if I should be concerned about the possibility of it being something worse.

Yes, this is quite common. It is because of delayed cellular response. It may occur within one to three weeks of the vaccination, is usually non-painful and may take one to two weeks to go away. You can lightly massage the area each day to help it go down.

Yes! That is very common, especially in small breed dogs. I saw an occurence in my pup and asked my vet for advice.

I was told to massage the area twice a day and apply a heating pad if possible during nap times. That will help decrease the discomfort and speed up the dissolution of the vaccine!

Good luck!

Remember, if it doesn't start going down in a few days, call your vet for further advice!

Yes a small lump can develop. She may try to itch it (rolling around etc). It's just like when we get shots. It's an irritation and the body is reacting.

If the spot starts to lose hair and the inflamation doesn't subside take her back to the vet because she may be having a reaction.

Good Luck

Yes, it is common and usually last for a couple of days.
Your Vet shouldve asked you to rub that area for a day or two.

Yes, it can but don't worry, it will go down. Also your puppy may be more groggy than usual and that is nothing to worry about either, the vaccinations will do that to dogs of all ages.

Yep, very common. If it doesnt' go away in about a week I would call the vet. Nothing to worry about though.

That is usually what it is from. Watch it for a week or so and you should see it go down. If it doesn't, see a vet. This is actually quite common.

Swelling is a common side effect from injections, sometimes the dogs skin just gets irritated. You should probably tell your vet for future references.
