We have a 1/2 Aussie Shepherd 1/2 blue heeler mix and by far is one of the smartest dogs Ive seen. She loves to chase birds. When we lived at our old house that had 3 acres of land, she would go out to the barn and climb the fence, sit on top of the rather wide fence post and jump up to catch the birds that would come out of a hole in the side of the barn. It was the funniest yet very intelligent thing Ive ever seen a dog do. Shes pretty fast too, and can jump clear over the fence to where the cows would be. The fence was at least 5 ft high or more.

He waited until we were all asleep upstairs then went into the kitchen, nosed open the door to the trash barrel, pulled the barrel out & dined on leftover chicken. Of course, the real trick would have been if he had cleaned up all the grease & bones before we woke up to a yucky kitchen. He also noses open the slider door when he wants to go outside & no one is home to let him out. By the way, we lock it now.

My dog used to babysit me....as a baby my mom would either be in the kitchen or somewhere else in the house and my german shepherd would sit and watch me, and according to my mom I fell over or something and my dog barked and ran to my mom and let her know that I did something....and my dog licked me to make sure I was ok...lol
She was the best dog she would not let anyone except for my parents and other family members hold me and pick me up...never strangers. she stood in between other people and lil ol me and either growl or bark
My dad also put her on a leash outside and a brick to hold the leash and she practically tugged that brick around and my dad would always find her due to the drag marks from the brick
really..she was one tough cookie....and she was just a PUP!!!! RIP Popcorn

Intelligent is how my Springer Spaniel protects everyone in our family. She never lays on my father's chest, but suddenly began to insist she must always be on my father's chest. Two days later, his heart flatlined, and a pacemaker saved his life. My dog no longer tries to sleep on his chest. She has protected my nephew from falling, (he's a toddler), and plays gently with him.

I have a beagle who has:

1) Moved chairs to get on the counter to get food.
2) Moved blankets to cover herself up.
3) Helped me find our cat. ("Where's kitty?")
4) Learned tricks: Sit, Stay, Lay, Roll Over, Shake, Say hello (howel), shut up (stop howling), give hugs (presses her neck against you), and returns home when told "git".
5) Most importantly: learned to play soccer with her food dish. Gooooaaaaallllll! ('Course that also makes it difficult to find her dish sometimes). :)

Most are food related - training or for her own personal gain.

Dog prevented house from burning down 2x.

My Mom's Pomeranian once woke Mother up when she forgot a pot of water on the stove, that boiled dry.

Years later same dog, alerted me... barking and whining when I forgot I was boiling baby bottles, (downstairs) and I let them boil dry and melt in pot.

She eats nearly all of her dinner but leaves like a small handful left till after we have finished eating our dinner. It's like she doesn't eat all hers in case we had leftovers. No use filling up on dog food if there is leftover spaghetti to be had! If we don't have anything for her, she then goes and finishes her food, sneaky lil' ***** she is!

my dog (sammy) has this thing about a certain spot on the couch. he sleeps there. he growls if u sit there. it is his spot. he is very possesive. my other dog is very gullible. if u say hello he will start barking like someone is here, he is also kind of possesive of us. even if sammy starts barking chase will start to bark. well chase dog was sitting next to my mother in sammy's spot and sammy was mad. so he started barking and ran out to the front door. and chase of course being his gullible self followed. then sammy ran back and got up on his spot. it was very smart and very cute

When my brother was trying to hide from me I was looking around for him around the house and my Jack Russell Terrier sniffed my brother out from under the bed. And tried to drag him out with his teeth. He also knows english and spanish commands.
