I was advised by a psychic to start working with the tarot. She saw great psychic power in me and said i should develop it. I would like to give it a try but I dont know which kind to get. Any insights?

By the way, what is the difference between all the kids of tarot?
Does anybody know a good website on the subject?

I learned on the Rider-Waite deck. I think that is rather nice for starters because every card has a picture which can help jog your memory of the meanings.

I tried to switch to another deck later and I just couldn't do it because it didn't have pictures on every card. I had to refer back to my cheat sheets even more frequently.

If I had kept it up it probably wouldn't have been a problem, but I just don't do it as much anymore.

I guess I would say ANY deck would be fine, but again, I did find having the visuals very helpful.

If you are using Tarot cards as an oracle, you may be more inclined to read card meanings and spreads. But if using Tarot Cards as a tool for Psychic Ability you would be less likely to hold to any hard and fast guide lines. I’m a profession psychic and use Tarot Cards in a random way. In 25 years of professional readings I’ve never used any ‘meanings, spreads or reversals’ of tarot cards from any books.

So if you want to develop ‘Psychic Ability’ throw the books and guidelines away and let the images inspire you. But you may need to try the Rider Waite or another imaged deck.

I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense. The Psychic Sense.

To tap in to it more you can go to my free develop-psychic-ability page here: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/develop-psychic-ability.html

But on the other hand, if you want to use the Tarot as an oracle, a form of divination that needs no real ‘psychic ability’, then keep the books and use the meanings and spreads if you prefer.

Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com

I like the Hanson Roberts deck, the Robin Wood Tarot and the Connolly Tarot Deck, because their imagery works well for my readings. I don’t like the darker cards like Crowley’s Thoth Tarot, but each to their own.

The many different tarot decks available will all portray symbolic imagery which must then pass through your psychic senses and, given the context of the questions asked, bring forth a tarot card meaning that significantly answers your question.

I am a professional psychic and always have at least 4 different decks on the go at any one time. When a deck get’s a bit too well worn I buy a new deck (often from eBay). I prefer to work with as new a deck of cards as possible so they shuffle and deal smoothly and quickly. I usually sell my old decks on eBay too. Here’s a live RSS feed for Tarot Decks on eBay at the moment. http://feeds.feedburner.com//TarotDeck

A hand sewn bag -- by technique of you -- is the most acceptable. notwithstanding i don't like Walmart -- attempt a fabric keep. i exploit to keep mine in velvet, with cool drawstrings. Crowley's e book of Thoth is really strong (as far as Tarot is in touch, otherwise -- no longer a lot on Crowley), notwithstanding, between the most acceptable books I discovered Tarot on as a baby become The mythical Tarot Workbook. It really taught me a thanks to benefit each and every card, even from different decks. i do not examine Tarot anymore, i'm a religious Catholic, so different's would have a extra effective, more recent, concept. notwithstanding i become really strong on the Tarot in my time. Take a at the same time as, do not rush, learn the playing cards. they're a lot less-used for telling the destiny as they are to really get all the way down to the middle of the count number. various the time that is what you get. in certain circumstances you get a glimpse of destiny, yet extra often/importantly you get a view of the free-will of the guy you examine for. Oh and on the grounds that i'm Catholic: Pax Christi

I started with Rider-Waite. That's probably the best to get started with. From there, you should pick your decks according to how they feel to you (so make sure you go to a store that has decks on display so you can touch the cards). Different decks use different symbolism for the cards. I have the Rider-Waite, Medieval Scapini, Celtic Dragon, Fairy Tale, Shakespearean and Lover's Tarot. I've got a sixth deck, too, but I'm completely blanking on which one it is.

Start with Rider-Waite and go from there. Good luck!

I think that Aecletic Tarot is the best site on the net for Tarot. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/

At Aecletic Tarot you can look at card scans and read reviews from more than 800 Tarot and Oracle decks listed from A to Z. You can also look at decks by theme, deck characteristic, publisher and review. Plus, there are direct purchasing links right on the deck pages from the major Tarot suppliers which making shopping easy. I also like the ease of being able to quickly compare prices if AT shows that several places have the deck in stock.

In general I think it's a good idea to start with a deck that you are comfortable with, one that speaks to you. And if that deck doesn't work out or is confusing for you, try another. Here is a list that AT considers good beginner decks because the standard Rider-Waite-based meanings and symbolism can be easier to learn.

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/beginner.shtml

From this list I personally really like the Hanson-Roberts and the Morgan Greer. The Universal Waite is another. However, the choice really comes down to what appeals to you in terms of artistic design, sumbolism, and deck characteristics. You may also want to take a look at these decks:

Gilded Tarot

Golden Tarot (such a beautiful deck!)
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/golden/

Medieval Cat (great choice as a beginner deck, in my opinion)
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/medieval-cat/

Fenestra Tarot (another great choice as a starter deck)

Robin Wood

In addition to AT's extensive deck/book reviews and information, you can also learn more about Tarot and the card meanings, send Tarot postcards, and join AT's active Tarot community.

The Aecletic Tarot forum is an awesome place to learn, share, and talk about Tarot.
http://www.tarotforum.net

The AT forum is a busy and active community with over 7000 members (Tarot students, collectors, readers and enthusiasts from around the globe) and there are hundreds of posts every day ranging from posts on Tarot spreads, deck collecting, to help with your readings. There is also an area for reading exchanges. You can also upgrade your free membership and become a subscriber to access extra features and benefits.

when you go to the store to buy a deck, then chose the ones that give off the most energy to you. use your instints to choose. the ones that appeal to you the most. hold your hand over the decks and the one you feel the most enegy from is the right deck for you. Also. put them on the windowsil on the night of a full moon to soak up the moons energy. this is a way to cleanse your cards. I think.
anyway the best way to develope you psychic abilaties would be to meditate.

A cheap one. The traditional Tarot deck is based on French playing cards. One might just as well divine the future from a modern deck's one eyed jack.

Start with something easy like a Rider-Waite deck. They are easier to learn. Once your skills increase, you can get something more specialized.
But, if you see something you really like, grab it as well. I had a book too that helped me learn. It's "Tarot, A beginner's guide" by Kristyna Arcarti.

You should start with the Old Maid Tarot. Then work your way up.

i would suggest simply looking for a deck that appeals to you ... there are so many to choose from
and i don't recommend using a book to do readings from ... so pick a deck that is bright and holds a lot of images to interpret
