I have always loved the name and my mom hates it..just getting other opinions.

My 5 month old neice's name is Mya (middle name Isidra after a great grandma). I love it!

It is a good name. One of my friends named his daughter Maya Nicole. She's four or five now, I believe. I've not heard it anywhere else though. It seems to be pretty unique.

Sounds nice, and cute and I don't think that is a name for making fun of(you know how kids at school are). I like it personally. heck it is your child and if it is the name that YOU like, well your mom is going to have to get used to it.
