I have a court appearance for a CA 22348b ticket (over 100mph). I plan to use an attorney and want to know is it better to use one that is local to that court or to retain one that is from out-of-town. I live 2 hrs away from the county where this was cited. Thanks.

For thos asking, this was on a straight stretch of 505 in early morning. No other cars on the road.

Not only will he know the court as the person above already advised, if you use an attorney from the county the ticket is in you won't have to pay $500 for the 4 hours of drive time it will take for the attorney to get there.

You have several interests at stake here. First, you want an attorney familiar with defending this kind of speed charge, particularly if your goal is to succeed at trial. You may not find such an attorney in the county where this occurred. Second, you want an attorney familiar with the court and the personnel involved, particularly if you want to negotiate a settlement. Such an attorney may not have speeding ticket expertise.

Third, you do not want to pay more than you need to. Your goal here is to avoid the expenses involved in a conviction, including fines and insurance costs, and to avoid a license suspension. But it doesn't do you any good if the lawyer costs more than the expense of all that put together. As has been noted, you probably don't want the added cost of paying for an attorney's commuting time.

Only you can balance out these various factors to help decide what is best for you (but if you can find a well-respected local attorney with the expertise you want, you are in good shape).

Totally agree with Jace. Unless the attorney is a great friend of yours you are gonna send your fees sky high with the travel time.
If you know a good attorney local, ask them about good attorneys where you got the ticket.
By the way, where were you headed at 100 mph?

sorry but have to ask did you think being on a straight stretch and no other cars in sight you could still go 100 mph??? and not expect a ticket? You just just pray they don't bury you under the jail for a stunt like that one and for saving your life.

My husb is a justice court judge who deals with "speeders" all the time as only part of the job...he won't even listen to someone doing over 75 in a 55 mph zone....if they had the radar gun on you how you going to fight that? using that excuse no one was near by? lol that has to be a good one for him to tell at the court house thanks,

Find a local attorney that specializes in traffic court. He knows the court and would be best suited in handling you case.
