My cat, about 9 months, he has a fairly decent sized body but his head is rather small. I heard from my dad that it is caused when a veterinarian neuters/spays a cat too early during their life. Is it true?

Hi Jon...I believe your father may have been misinformed. Genetics are one predeterminate as to why cats look so uniquely different from one another even from within the same litter. Like humans who are born to the same parents, some will be taller, thinner, etc--same with cats. HOWEVER, when cats are neutered before they reach sexual maturity (approx over the age of 5-7 months) cats will have a more muscular body, thickenings around the face called “shields,” and spines on the penis.

No. Males will develop "jowles" like a tomcat if left intact for a long time, but even neutered males can develop large heads. I have a boy that was neutered at three months and he has a very large head.
For cats, there really isn't a "neutering or spaying too early".
Besides, a small head would be better than having a cat that sprays all over!!!

Male cats' heads usually do not get big until they become fully "functional" adults. If you neuter a male cat before they are functional (between 4 and 8 months old), the hormones that cause the big head have not gone into their system. It is normal for a small head before they reach maturity.

Don't worry about your cat.For some cats that is normal. As your cat grows her head will become bigger and recently reach the normal size..My cat Ceda had a small head when he was 9 months, and now his big, nicely developed and very intelligent. ;)

i doubt that it is because of being spayed/neutered too early i have spayed one of my cats at 7-8weeks and she is perfectly fine...i really never heard of that unless the cats body just hasnt caught up with the growth of his head...i wouldnt worry just love him as normal

Your dad is pulling a fast one on you.
If the vet is not concerned with the size of the head, then I wouldn't be either.
