My 5 yr. old son is having a terrible time. He has just now come to the point of screaming and tears. He is afraid. Last week after a b/m there was a trickle of blood. I, of course, took him to the Dr. were they said that he must have gotten a small laceration within his bowels, and if the bleeding didn't subside in a few days, we would be referred to a specialist. The bleeding did stop, but now he is afraid. He has been eating plenty of grapes, raisins, plums and other fruit and drinking water. Does anyone know of any other household remedy that may help him?

The best household remedy that I have had extreme success with is one to two tablespoons of pine nut oil daily for approximately a week or so. The properties inherent in the oil lubricate the entire digestive system and loosen the stools. Go on line to seek a merchant I know of one in Vermont called Siberian Tiger. Hope this helps.

Try ground psyllium husks, available at your local health food store. mix a heaping teaspoon in about a half a quart of water or juice in a mason jar and shake vigorously. Drink quickly. I have found that this works excellently to improve regularity. Also, fresh apple cider or juice can be very effective, especially raw (unpasteurized). The natural enzymes are very powerful but only when fresh and raw.
Good luck.

You should get him on a regular schedule if possible or at least keep track of his BMs. If he's waiting too long, than the moisture is being taken out by the colon and it's blocking him up.
Veggies and fresh fruits (not dry now) and drinking water instead of only milk. Try cutting back on the meat.
He is running and excercising, not sitting at a TV or PC right?

My 6-year-old daughter has constipation pretty badly and we've found three things that help: 1) lots and lots of water (try serving it with a straw -- he'll drink much more of it faster that way) 2) Ex-Lax chocolate bars -- it only takes one tiny piece to get a 5-year-old going within about 12 hours 3) exercise, e.g., running, playing, etc.

Prune Juice.
Works like a charm. Just have your son drink a small glass full. Warning: a little goes a long way, don't let him drink too much or you'll have the opposite problem.

Every body is different but my girlfriends' nephew is 4 yr old and uses Go-Stix, and it helps him to go to the bathroom with no problems. You can by them through the Internet. Try http://www.wilfredojr.my4life.com and click on products, and then under Transfer Factor and look for Go Stix.

Try tomato or vegetable juice, if he doesn't like that, give him some watermelon. I've never seen either remedy fail.

If rapid relief is needed, a homemade soap suppository usually works!
