Here in the UK, we have an average price of 0.95p per litre which is equivalent to around $1.92. A gallon here is around £3.59 which is about $7.0633. What are the prices in the USA? Is the UK vastly over-paying the tax man by a large quantity?

Since the US is so big, and there is so much demand supply pricing in the equation, the average doesn't tell you much.

I was in Sacramento and SF last week, and it's pushing $3 there.
In the midwest, it's $2 or lower. In DC (today) $2.45.

Grades vary widely, too, from 87 to 93 octane, which can kick the price another 10%.

Where I live a gallon of regular is about $2.10 today. We are vastly overpaying the tax man so at your prices I'd say you are too.

Its about $2.23 a gallon here this week. That's a national average though. It can go up or down depending on where you live due to different local taxes.
