Honestly, I wouldn't bother spending money on chair covers. They're just another way for the wedding product & service industry to get your money. They're slippery and uncomfortable, and to me they honestly just look too fussy.
Save your money for more important things, such as your future life together. A wedding is really just a way for you & your fiancee to publicly express your desire to spend the rest of your lives together, and to celebrate that with your friends and loved ones. It's nice to have a pretty location, nice rings, a nice dress, some pretty flowers, and good food for your guests, but everything else is really just extra expense - don't go into debt over fluff.

Depends on what the chair underneath looks like. We are planning an Anniversary blow out and the place has black cloth chairs. Not at all complimenting my navy and silver holiday theme. So I rented them, they were $4 per chair.
If the chair goes with your colors and theme, dont waste your money. But another question, does your reception site have them for an additional fee? If they do, it will probably be the cheapest you will find them and the charge will also be for the set up. Plus the workers at the site will know how the covers go on and they will look better because they've had practice doing it.
I also just got the oriental trading cataloge and they had the chair covers and bows in it. So that might help you if you have to do this on your own. But I'd talk to your site first to see if they have them.

I own a country club and have to rent chair covers from a linen supplier for some of my weddings. My cost is $4.75 per cover with a sash. I mark that up to $6.00 due to the labor required to put them on and tie all the sashes.
Making your own would be just as expensive....then what would you do with them after the wedding?? I checked into importing some from China, but it takes a long time and since I don't know who I am dealing with, I'm not sure that I trust it.
Chair covers can be beautiful, though, and if money is not a huge object, they set an elegant tone.

Here in Scotland you can buy fabric, make or get someone to make them for you. Also they can be hired. However if reception in a reasonably good hotel who has a supply there is no way they would allow you to bring covers in to the venue so are left with hiring the covers from the hotel. Most answers seem to be from America and I am amazed to see the hire is so much cheaper than here. The hotel I had booked were charging £9.50 per chair which is a lot more than the postings in dollars. Personally I thought the price a rip off.

Is this for ceremony chairs or dining chairs at the reception? Every year an organization I'm involved in puts on a very elegant dinner for people being initiated to our group. We set a table with big white tablecloths and then have dozens of white pillowcases for the chair backs. It's white cotton, not satin or anything but under the glowy lights it all looks really amazing. Trust me -- the room looks spectacular and white and no one even notices the seats really. If it's for ceremony chairs obviously you can't do that. I would do some more searching. I was finding the sashes for $1.00 or so, but that's without the covers. Maybe buy a bolt of white fabric and a bolt of tulle ribbon and cut your own?

I had chair covers at our reception. We were fortunate to be able to borrow them from someone who had them made for their wedding. If you can, borrowing is a good way to go. Renting is also a good idea, you don't have to buy them and if they get dirty, the cleaning price is already included. We didn't cover all of the chairs though, just the wedding party's chairs.

It depends on how formal/elegant you want your wedding. We opted to rent chair covers anling with the table linens. It cost us $3.50 per chair. I can tell you it does really dress up the whole evet. I would do some research on independant linen providers those are the ones that give the better deals. Like I said i got mine for 3.50 a chair and I live in Chicago, so that's a good rate.

Wedding chair covers are BEAUTIFUL...
but indeed very pricy. I cannot tell you how to
get them cheap, unless you know someone who
already made their own, and are willing to rent
them to you.
I had my wedding at a hotel, and the hotel supplied and put them on for me at $5/chair! The sashes were white, but I could have chosen silver - as that was the colour of my wedding party.
Check with the place you are having your reception -- they might supply them like my venue did.
They are a very elegant touch!

They're very friendly but don't forget, nobody will be looking for the chairs, they'll be looking at you! My boyfriend talked me out of getting the chair covers. Just money you don't need to spend!

It can be very expensive.
If you rent cheap plastic chairs, the covers would be a good idea, but you could spend your money better elsewhere.
But in case this something you really want, check out this website.
