Go to Iraq and die or get one or two of your limbs blown off.

Its possible. The best thing to do is wait until your contract expires, but if you can't wait that long there are a few things you can do. Obviously you could fail a drug test. You may have to do it a few times, and its going to look horrible on you record, but it would get you out. You could constantly get into to trouble, basically do small things that will get you an NJP. Three NJPs in six months and you will probably be kicked out, atleast in the Marines you will, unless your battallion comander decides otherwise. But probably the quickest I've ever seen someone get out of the military is threatening suicide. I knew a guy who threatend suicide and a week later he was on his way home with a medical discharge. The first two options I stated will probably get you a bad conduct or dishonorable discharge, and the last one will get you a medical separation of some kind. Either way I hope you don't plan on working for the government ever because they will certainly look at your records. You really should just finish your contract. It can't be that bad, and it will be over with before you know it.

Go to JAG and tell him you're thinking of filing for Conscientious Objector status.

It is easier to have a good reason, like converting to a religion that does not allow you to serve in the military, such as Jehovah's Witness. You have to be genuine in your faith and several members of the church, including the pastor/priest/rabbi will be required to testify in writing and most likely in person that you are truly a convert and that your conscience will not allow you to continue to serve in the military. The type of discharge that you get could vary from general under honorable circumstances to dishonorable.

The soldiers that have tried to file for Conscientious Objector status that have not been religious converts are having a much tougher time. It is a really tough decision to make because once you start down that road, you can't turn back and you could end up in jail with a dishonorable discharge.

There are organizations that will help give you information but they don't really care about you. They help you out to further their own agendas. You have to be really careful when considering an option like this.

If you can do it morally, then it might be easier to go to Canada or some other country that will grant you refugee status. Canada has been really tough on soldiers that file refugee status since 9/11 because you have to fear persecution and/or cruel and or unusual punishment if you return. If Canada officially condemns the Iraq War, then I'm sure US soldiers would be granted refugees status as SOP. The US military has said it will not go after deserters so if you go to Canada, you can simply apply for normal immigrant status.

No matter what you do, you're going to need to do a TON of research and you're going to need a darn good lawyer (or two if you get a civilian and military lawyer).

Become a Quaker
Cut off your trigger finger
Move to Canada
Hit on your superior Officer (just make sure it's a man)..adopt effeminate traits and flaunt them like Big Gay Al from SouthPark
Fake insanity (got my friend out of the mandatory service in The Swiss Army..for real)
SERIOUSLY:
Whatever religion you really are..state that you are studying to be a priest, rabbi, monk, whatever the right religious term is and show that you are entering a monastic carreer...get a letter from the head of your church, mosque, temple, etc (Seriously, this got my friend's father from doing service in Vietnam.)

I got out of the army. I said I was crazy. Thing is I am a little crazy. I had proof of being on anti-depressants back in high school. It was not just like Oh-I'm-crazy sure no problem go home. It was very hard to get out. I refused to do anything. I was seperated with a chapter 11 entry level separation. "Inability to adapt to military lifestyle." It is not impossible but it will take some research and work. and believe me your commanders will make you feel like **** but once you get back home who cares what they think??

I also hear that if you wet the bed three times they will let you out. I would research that one some more before trying it out though.

There are many ways.
Just depends on what kind of discharge you want, If a want a good one well that narrows it down quite a bit

If you are a DEP then you are not actually in the military yet and you can just say the hell with it. No matter what your recruiter may tell you.

You could do what most do and finish you time

Also try this site they are there to help.

Change your Religion. Stock pile and get caught with Gay magazines. Find a way to fake your sexuality if you aren't gay. Get involved with a minor. Repeatedly refuse orders. Fake a mental break down, begin by acting depressed and odd.

Ask to be reassigned to the Nuclear Weapons section. During the screening and they ask why, tell them that the bullets aren't big enough to do the job. Too many enemy and too little time. Act like you're going through withdrawal from crack as a clincher.

The first thing you need to do is apply for citizenship in another country. Then comeback and tell your platoon leader you are having suicidal thoughts and sexual problems. They will get you out of there quick, plus you will get disability funds every month.

Resign and be discharged without honor. You should be able to do that at any US base. If you do though, you give up all privillages of being vet. (health care, burial rights, GI loans ect)
