There is no laws that state you must show identification when using your credit or debit cards at any business. However, as the card owner if and when the business/ merchant requests your photo identification it is a good thing. Why? Simply put they are taking proactive steps to check that you are the correct owner of the credit or debit card about to be used. The amount does not matter; what matters is the fact if you are not the owner of the card and you attempt to charge but the business does not make any effort to check there is a bad chance your credit can become damaged.

It is true you are only held liable up to $50.00 but you must promptly report the loss of the card. Failing to so, may result it more problems for you as the account holder. So why bother to get into the trouble in the first place?

Be proactive about your credit and debit cards and protect yourself. From a consumer perspective when a business asks for verification, this is a good thing and is hardly as troublesome when you consider the consequences if someone abused your credit or debit cards and pretended to be you. Often it is good to err on the side of caution especially with your credit cards.

I personally always show my id whenever I charge anything and make sure the cashier looks at both, it is for my own protection after all.

No moving money to your Capital One card won't help you just yet. You just need to pay as much as you possibly can towards your Bank of America card every month and do not use it at all. Clip coupons, downgrade your cable or cell phone package, eat mac and cheese a couple nights a week. You'll be surprised how much extra money you will have to put towards your credit card bill. That's the best way to pay it down. About the Avon account. It's time to talk to your mom. Tell her you need her to pay that off NOW it hurting your credit especially if they are calling you b/c she is late paying. You can also call Avon and see if you can be taken off the account you may need your mom's permission to do this but if you can you should and soon.

It really depends on the rules of that particular place. Its rare that merchents ask for ID on purchases less the 50$.
