You should go to the Financial Aid section of http://www.nvcc.edu and get some preliminary information there, then go to the financial aid office for further assistance.
One nice thing about NVCC is that you can take a class at a time, so if you can scrape together about $300 for tuition and books, you can take a class.
Also, you can take classes through the Extended Learning Institute (ELI) online, by watching classes on TV, and through the mail, depending on the class. Some of these classes have rolling admissions, which means that if you have $300 now to sign up for one class, and you can save up another $300 in a month, you can go ahead and sign up for a second class without waiting for the new semester. For more information about that, call the ELI office (there's a link to the ELI web site in a drop down menu on the NVCC.edu home page) and ask them to help you identify classes you want to take that have rolling admissions.
Financial Aid can take some time to come through, so you should go ahead and get started even if you don't plan to attend until next fall. Honestly, I don't know what's available from the Federal Government in terms of grants and loans if you're a permanent resident vs. a citizen, but the Financial Aid office can help you with that.
Good luck!

try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying.
every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc
heres a link with a HUGE amount of some available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.
Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.
OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.

you want to envision with the communtiy college to make advantageous you do not have too many hours to recieve monetary help there. The max you may "attempt" at a univeristy is larger than at a community college and when you're already seen a junior in a school placing you may get no longer something in any respect at a junior college. call the community college fin help workplace to be advantageous.... maximum will reduce off all federal provides you or maybe loans at ninety tried hours or so. And concerning living prices being blanketed it relies upon on when you're thinking "loans" fin help and how severe priced the college is. some human beings get adequate help to cover each little thing, some do not. good success.

See if you can find a job on top of school that can help you pay for it, and some jobs will even reimburse your school expenses depending whether the program is related.

complete the fafsa as soon as possible and they will send you an award letter on the aid available to you. if you turn it in late, then most of the aid will probably have been taking.
