that they thought nothing of throwing out in the rain for hours at a time with NO shelter. And they NEVER give the poor thing a bath! She stinks SOOOO bad it's pathetic! They said they wanted to get rid of her, and my husband found her a WONDERFUL home just down the street. The people were THRILLED to have her, and the owner was glad to get rid of her. The NEW owner put her in OUR yard for ONE day so he could build her a dog house and put a fence up. THEN, the ORIGINAL owner came and took the dog from our yard claiming it was running loose (WHICH IT WASN'T)! And she says she has decided NOW to keep the dog.
WE WERE LIVID!! Am I right in being so mad, or should I just forget about it?

I would be livid too, but this is now a matter for your neighbors to sort out. Unless there is paperwork confirming transfer of the animal, the new owners may not have any legal rights to her. (moral yes, legal no).

I'd stay out of this though if I were you. No good can come of it.

It's ok to be mad because you are frustrated. You & your hubby did a good thing by finding the puppy a good home. And now you have no recourse. I can't imagine you will forget about it. As a matter of fact, I'll bet you'll be watching the neighbor who took the puppy back to be sure the puppy is treated well. If you see the puppy not being treated well I'll bet you'll be on the hotline to the SPCA or equivalent in your area. Maybe you will be able to do something after all. This is a tough situation, keep your wits about you & don't do anything which could put you in front of a judge. Good Luck.

I've never heard of any breeds that can't be crated. I don't buy that. Anyway, stop giving in to him. Just let him whine & completely ignore him. When he doesn't get rewarded for the behavior he'll stop. It may take some time for him to learn this but it'll be worth it in the long run. As a rule, you're not supposed to let puppies eat or drink right before bedtime. If you're feeding him it's no wonder he needs to go potty. Try cutting off food & water access about 2 hours before bedtime. Does he get enough exercise? Try having a good playtime with him in the evening, before bed. If he's worn out, he'll be more likely to sleep.

I would call the police or your local animal control unit and ask if you can take the dog from them to give back to those other people. They should file a formal complaint for theft. Make sure you can get the other people to back you up. Inform the authorities that the dog is not being properly taken care of. I would be just as upset as you are. I have NO tolerance for people like that!

If you are so worried about the health of the dog then you should call the humane society and let them get ahold of them. And if she had given the dog to the person down the street and took it back then they should call the authorities and see what they say about it or maybe you should call and get advice for what you can do. I would be upset too but if I could find a way to get the dog back then I would.

You do have a right to be so upset. However, life is seldom fair..If we expend too much energy on the negative aspects of the injustices, then the 'jerks' become the winners..Our energies need to focus most on the positive things...or things we can actually FIX..such as the inhumanity of shelters..dogs in cages..We CAN volunteer, raise funds, or foster dogs..Thereby doing something about this major problem of pet neglect...

There are laws in every area about leaving dogs with no shelter. You DO have a right to report the neglect.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Your neighbor was tresspassing and STEALING.

I would call the police immediately! Especially if there was cruelty involved. I don't know where you're located but it's cruelty in VA to leave a dog out for 5 hours or more w/ no shelter. I had cops actually come to my house because my neighbors thought thats what I was doing. (Low and behold I have a doggie door and they prefer to be outside on a sunny day...thats besides the point).

Call the police if you need to!

Good Luck

If you have that many witnesses to the transaction and the statement that the owner wanted to be rid of the dog and agreed to the transfer of ownership, I'd take that a**hole to small claims court and get the dog back.

Make sure you get your evidence and witnesses lined up and I'm sure you'll blast 'em in court.

I have to appear in small claims court for the attorneys I work for regularly and we appear on all sorts of stuff and see a lot of stuff-- including animal disputes of all kinds. That's probably where you'd have the quickest remedy.

I know how you feel, my neighbors have a puggle puppy that they just let run loose, people keep bringing it to me to see if it is mine, no, my dogs are right where they are suspose to be. I called the local animal shelter and was told that if it comes on your property then technically it is a stray and you can pick it up and take to them, at least there it would have a better chance of finding a good and decent home. Call your local aspca, or if she comes on your property take her to them..

Yes, I would be ticked off. First off, its not the dog or the puppy....Its their irresponsible owners.....Dogs barking all through the night in 20 degree weather....Finding lost dogs and trapping them in our yard to get their tag and call their owners to pick up. that's happened a few times....Twice with that same dog. We didn't want him lose and getting hit....So we trapped them in the yard....You can complain but it wouldn't do any good....Its just so frustrating. I can relate...That poor baby.
