If the check is big enough you could go to jail for writing bad checks......

If she goes to your bank to cash the check, she will repeatedly be denied since there are no funds to cover the check.

If she deposits the check in her bank account, your bank will return it and charge your account a bounced check fee. Your friend's bank may also charge her account a fee for depositing a bad check.

Your friend's bank may try a second time to cash the check which will bounce and more fees will be charged to your account. If the second time doesn't work, your friend's bank will return the check for insufficient funds.

Depending on your history with the bank, there is a small chance that the bank may cash the check in good faith, but will still charge you the bounce fee. If this happens, and you don't bring the account back to zero (at minimum), the bank will freeze or close the account and report you to the national banking service. They are utilized by all banks prior to opening an account and if your name shows up on it, they will refuse your attempt to opening a new account until the problem is cleared up.

Since (in the US) writing a check to pay a debt when you're in full knowledge there will be no funds to cover the check is against the law, if your friend decides NOT to be your friend anymore, they could get you in trouble. When you pull fraud like that with a federally protected institution like a bank, your ex-friend could get you in a spot of trouble.

Well, assuming that you friend cashes the check, it will go through the bank back to your bank, which there will be no funds at, and it will be sent back to your friend's bank. Sometimes the bank will try to run i through twice. You will get charged with an "overdraft" charge along with the amount of the check on any checks that may go through when there are no funds available.

this is a crime. It's called passing bad money. Call the friend and tell them you were mistaken, you had forgotten that you'd just lent your mom, brother someone $200. Now that check is no good. Otherwise their account will be charged $20 for the returned item and you'll rack up some fees in your account.

above posters are correct, plus the bounced check report will be on file in the central system. This can cause you to get higher rates on your credit cards, credit denial, inability to open a checking account at another bank, etc..

First of all, I'm surprised that "The Chosen" would bounce a check. Jeez Louise!!! Anywho; yep, it will bounce, you will charged with an NSF fee and things will not be good. If you do it too much; you could end up in the big house. For real!!!

it will bounce, the bank will charge you a fee, and the check will get sent back to her and have a statement that funds were insufficient, she may have to pay a fee at her bank.

The check will bounce, and you will have to cover the ammount of the check PLUS a fee (fine)... And if you do this several times, you can get in legal trouble...
