I am in a show this weekend and the second dress rehearsal is tonight, and I am slowly losing my voice. What can I do about it?

Okay, trust me when I say I know RIGHT where you are coming from. I've done a lot of musicals and I always lose my voice before opening!

First thing is first, and I'm surprised I haven't read it yet; drink LOTS of water...do it constantly. Water lubricates the throat and it's really important for throat health.

Also, honey is good for you, yes. I would recommend putting it in some tea. Throat Coat and Throat Comfort are both terrific and life savors to the voice. You can find them at Safeway and I whole-heartily recommend them to everyone I know.

You also should talk as little as possible and sleep as much as you can. You're body heals at an alarmingly faster rate when you're sleeping. I know it seems difficult, but it will help.

I used lemon before an opening once and it burnt my throat. It's good for Flem, not for loosing your voice. Also, NO CAFFEINE. It constricts your throat and is bad for it.

Also, tell your directors that you can't give it all or you'll lose it all. lol. They'll be most understanding if you tell them right away
Please read carefully as I have seen a lot of this. Break a leg this weekend!

Well rest your voice but if you have a dress rehersal, that could be difficult. For a start but this website might help:

But yes, honey does work. Because of it's thick, gloopy formula (couldn't think of the word) it coats the inside of your throat and protects it from become dry and sore.. Which if you work it out from there, helps your voice.

It's a bit of a sticky situation really because I don't know if anything will repair it in time for tonight as tonight is now.

Good luck!

Whenever I have a sore throat, I always make hot tea with honey and lemon.

I sing a lot in church and in shows. Just take a spoonful of honey before the show. It works!

Are you stressed maybe? Relax, have a nap (if possible), a nice cup of chamomile tea with a tea spoon of honey might be helpful.

it moisturizes your throat. Also hot tea, coke syrup, and wine are good for your vocals. If you do not keep your trachea moistuized, it will become dry and cracked not only resulting in a lost voice but vulnerability to bacteria and viruses

Try not to talk (as much as you can) and make some tea and add honey, it has worked for a singer in my church.

well if you are going to sing i would suggest you either drink an egg or take an onion and put it in a glass of water and after couple of hours drink it ( it mihgt sound disscusting but it works 100%) you will notice the diff
