Turn your key on - but do not start the car. Look at all of the warning lights on the dash. If you have ABS - there should be an ABS light on.

Take a tire off. If you see a ring of notches or small gears surrounding the wheel hub behind the front or rear brake rotors you have anti-lock brakes. You must take these steps to be sure. If you have ramps or a floor jack you can raise the vehicle and look at the back side of the rotors. and you see this ring of teeth also. Use Jack stands If you plan to do go beneath your car.

I know one easy way, but be careful where you do this. Drive real fast, and then slam on the brakes. If they lock up, and you slide, you don't have antilock brakes. If you can feel the brakes pump as you stop, then you do. Look at the skid marks when your done. If there one solid line, then you have old school brakes. If there broken up in to little patches, then you do.

Look under the bonnet and see if there is a ABS unit also there will be a check light on the dash which comes on when the ignition is turn on and goes out when the engine is started

Take it out for a drive, and slam on the brakes really hard. If they vibrate really hard, that is the anti-lock brakes working.

Look in your manual.
If you dont have it.

Find the break booster, follow the metal lines coming from it and see where it goes to. If it goes to a splitter looking device then Id say so.

But go about 45 and put all the weight on the breaks and see what happens.

When you slam on the breaks it will brake, then roll, then break slowly to a stop, instead of one long break which sends you out of control in some cases.

If you brake heard, does the car produce a stuttering noise?

it probably doesn't. but get down behind a wheel and look for an electrical connection to the knuckle. this would be a abs sensor.

It usually has the letters ABS somewhere (check the dashboard/steering wheel)
