My 4 year old daughter has been running a fever for 5 days. It goes up and down... mostly controlled with motrin & tylenol. At times she seems like she is getting better, then all of the sudden... BAM... we are back to square one. She vomitted on days 1, 2 & 4. She is complaning of stomach pain, sore throat and has been very lethargic and has not really eaten anything in days. (I am keeping her hydrated.) She has also had loose bowel movements. We saw the Dr. last night who told me to wait it out for another day or two then take her for blood work. I am really worried. We have a family history of non-hodgkins lymphoma. Any ideas what could be making my baby girl so sick? If the fever gets worse should I just take her to the ER? Thank you for any help or suggestions. Please only serious replies. Thanks again!

While it is likely a cold or the flu, I would be concerned about meningitis, myself.

Probably the flu my 6 year old had it over x mas.. First they thought she had a UTI and tested her and put her on Bactrum then turned out she started vomiting for 4 days!! Welll the UTI was not the issue, she had the flu and it lasted about 2 weeks.. She had a fever of 104.6 at the highest and we alternated with tylenol and motrin.. If the fever is really high get some Feverall it is a gel suppository and although unpleasant to give, it brings the fever down right away. Have her drink white grape juice or gatoraide or pedialyte and lots of popscicles rest and coloring books and maybe new crayons. If the fever gets to 105 take her to ER, when my daughter was 14 months she had scarlett fever, a red sandpaper rash all over her body that itched like crazy her ferver spiked to 106 and triage took her rightaway and gave her antibiotics and steroids... Be careful because high fever can cause permanent heart damage and or brain damage, just watch her closely and you are her mother so trust your intuition, If something is not right then you get someone to listen to you and make them see it your way.

I have 10 month old twins and the other night I was rushing my youngest(Marah) to the ER, Because she was running a fever of 103.5 when I got there they told me what it was called is viral syndrome, but she got better the next day all these things you are telling us sounds like it except for the lethargic part I would go see another doctor pronto. It is flu season. Also there are some other really bad things you may not have even thought of. One of the signs of menigicocl meningitis is lethargy.
Have her try to touch her chin to herchest if it causes pain take her and the rest of your family to the ER.(even if the rest of you are not sick you have to be treated as well)

Could be strep, could be a stomach bug, too. Strep will cause sore throat, vomiting, fever. Advil can aggrevate her stomach and make the gut pain worse. Take her for the labs/blood tests. When the bood test results come back you'll know more. There is a 5 minute throat swab for strep, and they culture the sample also but at least you can get meds for her right away if it is strep. Did he swab her throat?
Don't get all lymphoma-scared. It's just a bug.

Sterp maybe-she needs a test for that to rule it out as untreated strep can lead to hart problems. If you feel that the Dr isn't doing enough then be an advocate for your child. Take them back and see a different Dr in the practice or go to the ER. You are the mom and you know if things seem out of the norm.

First, when you checked her temp under her arm was is 103.4 after you added a degree? When you check under the arm your supposed to add 1 degree to whatever it shows. So if you didn't add a degree then she would actually be closer to 104.3 Also young small children can actually handle high fevers because small kids tend to be a higher temperature naturally. However older children and adult cannot handle high temps 104 degrees is like boiling the brain. I know she has the chills but the best thing to do is to actually put cool cloths under her arm pits, on forehead, and chest area you need to bring her core temp down. Keep replacing the clothes when they get hot. If her temperature goes up any higher than 103.4 you need to take her to the emergency room. I actually myself had a fever one time of 103.5 when I was 17 and my mother took me in. Turns out I had Strep with an abscess they said I was pretty close to being admitted for the night. They gave me a shot of penicillin in my thigh. Good luck I hope she get's better!

I think you should consult a doctor. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

First of all, doctors really make me sick! Why would you wait and then take her for blood work? You should be taking her for blood work now so you can find out what's going on. I'd take her to the ER today! That's just making oyu worry and prolonging her discomfort. I'd take her now , if it were my child!
