My husband and I are about to purchase our first, big screen HDTV. We also have four kids, ages, 7, 4, and 19 month old twins. This is TV is a big investment for us, so I don't want the younger three to mess with it. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to block the area in front of the entertainment center from them?

Whatever you decide, please please make sure your tv is stable on the stand. A 3 y.o. just died in my town after the tv fell on him. I have seen in a child's catalog a plastic device that covers the buttons. If you can get a stand custom built, my brother built it high enough that his little ones so they wouldn't block his view while they walked in front of the tv while the adults were watching it. Good luck, big screens are fun to watch movies on.

Well, the older 2 would be fine but I guess some people don't realize that a 19 month old is just learning discipline and is not going to listen (yet). If you can get one for the wall, I would do that.
My parents just had one custom made and it's high enough to where the grand kids can't touch it.
I had to shop around for a looong time for my current TV stand, I've been searching for the perfect entertainment center forever and still haven't found it yet.
Good luck!

Maybe Plexiglas recessed in the hole for the TV just until the little ones get old enough to understand not to touch the TV. It can be easily wiped off with Windex. HDTV's are a very expensive purchase so I would suggest buying the extended warranty as well. Good Luck!!!

ohhh yikes lol, i know how you feel! We have four boys under 8 lol. I hated dealing with things like this!!! I would say to teach them its just not a toy, when they touch it, slap there hand a little bit and tell them NO. They will catch on and learn not to play with it. Soon it be will completly ignored. Try getting the 7 year old to help. Have him or her tell you every time they start to play with it. It will also be fun for the older child. Make them feel important :) they like tasks. Goodluck and congrats on the tv, im sure my hubby would love to live with you guys haha

They will want to watch TV I can tell you that. Make it a reward and mount it on the wall. Make it a rule that you must use the remote when you turn it on! Make other rules and if they do not listen take privileges away. Make the TV a scared and wonderful place to be a room they want to be in. If they break to many rules do not let them in the room. They will learn.

You could get some small fencing panels from Home Depot. I've seen that done to block Christmas Trees. The four-year-old would benefit most from discipline techniques, though.

Buy a big screen T.V. that you can mount of the wall, that way the kids cant touch it ( they are too short) and it will look nice in clean compared to the older t.v.s
