I was honorably discharged in 2001. Have not received any form of VA health coverage, nor my MGIB? Why is that, is this somethign that I was responsible for after discharge, or was there supposed to be forms sent via mail, or upon leaving my base? I've tried getting in touch with the VA, and i've talked to numerous people and have gotten diffrent stories from each. Perhaps someone here has gone through the same situation, and can direct to the right path to get my health coverage that I deserve for serving my country.

In order to get your GI bill - you need to go to your school's financial aid office and fill out the forms.

In order to get VA health care - you need to take your DD-214 to your local VA hospital and sign up.

You enroll in college and then apply for your educational benefits, VA link provided below.

What VA health coverage, you do not get health insurance just because you are a veteran. The VA will provide some services for non-service connected problems, but your gonna have to buy your own health coverage. If you enroll at a university, most schools offer discounted health plans you can use your educational benefits to pay for.

First of all go to your V.A. Hospital and sign up. You must have your DDFORM 214 to prove you served and have an honorable discharge. ( Takes about 30 minutes to fill out ) They will then give you an I.D. Card ( A Veterans Card....A credit size card showing you are allowed to have benifits ) If any problems get back with me. I deal with the Veterans all the time at the hospital. Warning....They may ask you about how much money you make....You don't have to answer.....Remember, Bush and Company is in power so they may try to keep you from signing up.( They meaning Hospital staff)

You can go register at any VA hospital, preferably the one you want to use. You must have your DD-214 and after that they will set you up. If you are 50% or higher on a disability from the military you stand a better chance to get seen in the VA. If you have no disabilities, you may have to wait sometime to get seen.

yes, YOU were responsible for endsuring that any benefits you werre due were received.

the GI Bill, you have ten years to use, so you better get on that quickly, you only have a few years left of eligibility.

as for medical.. only if you were awarded any disability by the VA. If not, you do not rate any medical coverage.

First of all you have to apply for benefits first, and you have to enroll at a college and they have to except GI Bill benefits. The government is not just going to hand it over, you have to fight for it. Just like serving your country. I was discharged in 2003 and recieve benefits for back, ankle, and head injuries. I went to college for 2 years so I know the funds are available.
