can anyone tell me if they are are related because I think they are the same bird just differnent colors.

No, they are not closely related at all. Blue Jays are members of the Corvid family. This includes jays, crows, nutcrackers, ravens and magpies. Cardinals are in the Fringillidae family, which includes finches, buntings, grosbeaks and sparrows.

If you look closely at the birds you can see that their beaks are shaped differently. They also have different postures. Both do have crests, but there are a number of other birds that have crests, too, but arent related at all.

Unfortunately, they are not the same bird. They are related as far as birds are related to one another and that's it.

They might be in the same family. I don't know. Aren't blue jays bigger? I have jays and cardinals that all hang out together, so I see what you mean.

They are NOT related. They DO look quite a bit alike, though. I don't know the specific species names.
