Our puppy does the same thing--haha. A trainer recommended getting a heavier bowl (such as a ceramic) bowl that is more difficult to knock over. She also said that you can get one of those bowls that is in a stand, so your dog can't knock it over. You can get them at pet stores. Here are some examples:

Does your cat always do this no matter how recently you've refilled the bowl? My cat drops things in his bowl (it's far too heavy for him to knock over) when he thinks it needs to be changed. Try changing the water more frequently and see if the behavior changes or stops. Alternately, try using filtered (i started used water from a brita pitcher when I lived in a town where the water had a high chlorine content) water. If none of this changes the behavior, try a self-waterer that holds a greater amount of water or put the bowl in a corner where it cannot be flipped.

I would recommend getting some sort of very heavy, weighted bowl that she cannot tip over. She may still play in it; in which case you could put the bowl in either a boot tray or a washer tray (goes underneath you washer).
MY GSD use to deliberatly knock over her water when she was crated...I actually used 4 clips to attach the bowl to her crate. She's since out-grown this habit and only plays with the community bowl if its empty.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7bX
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Try getting her the 3-5 gallon water dispensers. She has continuous fresh water and it's way to heavy to flip.
There are also large metal no skid, no flip bowls that are sold at petsmart or petco.
Thats really funny. My golden does that at the dog park. She'll flip the bowl play in the puddle then lay in the mud.
Good Luck

My dog gives me the same problem because she likes FRESH water ALL THE TIME. LOL. I got herto stop doing it by giving her cold water from the frig plus adding an ice cube. No problems since! That may not be yourdog's issue but it's worth a shot. Good Luck

since I don't know what kind of dog you have, how about trying the joined bowls where it is one thing with both the food and water bowls in one thing, she shouldn't be able to knock that over.

I had the same problem with my dogs, so we just got them a 3 gallon water dispenser. (the jug part looks just like those water dispensers you see in alot of businesses, and it just fits right into a water dish) I just fill up the jug in the morning and they're set for the day and I don't have to worry about a big mess when I get home.

I just bought one of those stands for my dog that make the food and water bowls at their level so they don't have to bend to eat. the bowls sit down in the stand so he couldn't knock them over if he tried. they make different sized ones (they have them at petco/petsmart etc.) maybe you could try one of those! i've heard it's healthier for them to eat without bending so it could have other benefits besides not coming home to a small flood each day!

Try a heavy bowl or one w/feet so that she doesn't know HOW to knock it down.
