Lately my emotions have been getiing out of control. Yelling at my friends for no reason, giving good friends the cold shoulder, or just not even allowing myself to stop and think to myself. What is the cause of this and how can I stop it?

Well, you kind of answered your own question- YOU have to allow yourself time to stop and think. Anytime you are tempted to respond in an undesirable manner, stop and think about the words you are going to say. Stop and consider why you are upset and if it is for a legitimate reason, like stress, take steps to relieve that stress.
You're not doing yourself any favors by being out of control- you'll lose friends, lose respect of family, get fired from your job, etc etc,
It's all up to yopu though- YOU must make the decision to change or continuing down a path like that will be terrible.

Well you can't really control your emotions, it is your actions and reactions that you need to get ahold of.

Don't invalidate your feelings but don't act simply on emotion either. If you are in the heat of the moment and feel that you are going to lash out at someone, take a few deep breaths and even leave the room if you need to. Keep telling yourself, "I'm not going to lose it."

The cause? It could be so many things. Something is bothering you. A psychologist can help you out with that. You can get help even in one session if your issues don't run really deep.

Good luck and remember to breathe!

Stress. You need to make a change in your life. I remember that when I went away from my environment for a while, when I came back I felt in control. There is to much going in your life. Just take it easy and breath. I draw or do yoga, or dance when I'm like this. It calms me down.

If this is not typical behavior for you, then it does indeed sound like stress. Try to look at your situation objectively and determine if you are in a stressful environment. List what has been going on in your life and then ask this question, "If my friend was going through this, would I expect her/him to be stressed?" Sometimes it is easier to see it that way. If it lasts longer than 2 weeks, I would get thee to a counselor --- no reason to be miserable. Good Luck!

You need to stop and think about where all of this started. There must have been something that set it off if you arent normally like this.It sounds like your really stressed and need a break.Try doing something for yourself.Hot, long soaks in a bubble bath does wonders to get rid of stress. But if it gets any worse, you might want to see your doctor. They can give you something to take the edge off until your stress levels drop.

Yes. Stop thinking about yourself so much - being paranoid and self-absorbed - and focus on other activities and/or people: reading, hobbies, volunteer, social activism.

Or go take a meditation or yoga class. You just may very well be sick of people. I get that way.
