Especially curious to know what those in the military believe...

Tropps surges concern me, because escalation of the issue may make things worse.

I just recall vietnam, when they needed more and more and more to get the job done.

What is really needed is a coherent policy to help the troops over there. More troops will not resolve anything unless they have a clear issue as to why they are there in the first place and, for internal consumption, an idea of how long it is going to take.

Without something like that, it makes no real sense to send more.

Good idea, but probably not enough...If it has a positive impact, send more.

(I'm not presently in the military but have served)

As a side-swipe, maybe this is a good illustration of why Bush Sr and Clinton should never have downsized the military in the first place.

After 4 years it's time to stop cutting bait and GIT 'R DONE. I don't think 20,000 is enough, we shoulda had more to start with. But fact is, we gotta finish the job and put it in the completed column darn soon.

When the rhetorical dust settles, however, I think we're better off fighting in the streets of Baghdad and Mosul than the streets of Dalhart, Pierre, or Eau Claire.

Actually, soldiers want a surge. They need it. They dont have enough back up, and the extra soldiers will mean less will get killed. You dont have to be speaking for the soldiers either all of you saying it sucks, they have the experience you dont. And how many time have you asked this question already?

It's a good idea...But we should have sent more. I've spent 23 years in the military, and know that's pretty much the only way to go right now.

Its another Bush mistake. I dont call 20,000 troops a surge, why not send 300,000 and get it over with? That or a MOAB.

I think it needs to be done to crush the opposition. Im just not convinced that it will be enough boots on the ground.

To little, too late. I don't think it will change much.

There are several things going on there-- insurgency, terrorist, sectarian violence, non-gov militia groups forming.
