THE levvees broke because of the wave surges were to strong have a man made levees withstand that pressure. its like a leaf getting blown by 100 mile an hour wind.

A simple question with so many anwers.

They were poorly designed and contructed and there was no uniform code to construct them. Many were built and varying heights, with different soils, and different designs. They were never fully funded. They were controlled by many different agencies unwilling to work with each other. Environmental damage along the gulf coast made hurricane storm surges much worse for the city than would have been 50 years ago.

we dont have stable levees.. we dont have stable land either.
The levees broke because the gound they were on wasn't able to support the levees... its nothing but marsh.. so the levees broke.. or they just fell over b/c the ground under them got so saturated with water.. the levees just couldn't hold up the water anymore.

and yes... to the guy above me.. its Bush's fault..
heh
