Had a high fever and am now on antibiotics but still a slight fever. By slight, I mean woke up and temp was 98.6, but today at noon was about 99.5. Been taking tylenol for about 5 days now since at first had a fever of 103. When is the right time to stop taking it? When no more sign of fever? Or is under 100 okay? thx

You should stop taking the tylenol and if your fever goes over 99 take some motrin. Motrin is not as bad on your liver as tylenol. Most doctors recommend when your sick and have a persistent fever to rotate between motrin and tylenol every 4-6 hours until you are feeling better.

I'd stop taking the Tylenol, antibiotics should help the fever go down but
most important a lot of liquids is a must so you can flush all that mess
out of your system. If you still have a fever contact your doctor it is not
good to take Tylenol for long periods of time.

Use Tylenol for up to 3 days for fever or up to 10 days for pain (or up to 5 days to treat a child's pain). If the symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse, stop using Tylenol and see a doctor.
• Avoid alcohol during treatment with Tylenol. Together, alcohol and Tylenol can be damaging to the liver.
• Be aware of the acetaminophen content of other over-the-counter and prescription products. Care should be taken to avoid taking more than the recommended amount of acetaminophen per dose or per day.

I would stop taking it now since it doesn't seem like you have a fever any more. People's temperature varies all the time. It isn't always at 98.6. It can go up and down by 1 degree. Feel better.

Depending on the severity of the fever, it wouldn't be unwise to take tylenol for up to four or five days after getting sick. If after that time, the fever doesn't cease, I'd go and check it out with a doctor, just to be sure.

In your case, specifically, I'd definitely go and get it checked out.

Tylenol does real harm to the liver, so I wouldn't be on tylenol any longer than I had to. I'd stop using it when I see that it isn't doing anything to help me-probably one or two days.
