I don't understand why some answerers are saying this is an old issue. Several thousand Katrina victims are suffering this VERY day. It might be "old news" to the forgetful populace and the inept media (Tom Cruise's wedding is more important, I guess), but so many people are still suffering from this horrible event.

Is anyone surprised that he didn't? He didn't care when the hurricane was approaching, when it hit, and the chaos afterwards. So why would he all of a suddenly care now? Unless he or his cronies get something out of it, either financially or politically, he could care less about New Orleans. And considering what an idiot he is and how many bad decisions he has made, you can't really expect much from the fool. And sadly the democrats, instead of taking advantage of this opportunity to do some good for the common folk, like they are always claiming to do, they didn't do anything either besides give some lip service and complain about Bush's response, or lack there of. So thank you to democrats for showing us you are just as useless and corrupt as republicans.

LA is poor, NO is even poorer and poor people do not vote or have any power, so why the hell would any politician not from there give a rat's a*s about the situation there. Sure when we have Earthquakes in CA the govt sure responds quickly and rebuilding begins almost immediately. CA is a much wealthier state and has more political muscle and therefor gets the attention of politicans.

America has so many sprawling metropolitan areas that all have the same stores, the same looking homes, and the same everything and it was all built in the last 50 years. NO is one of the oldest, most historical and culturally unique cities in America and we are letting it die. This city is just as important saving from going under water for America as saving Venice from the same fate for Italians. And so many people from around the country with their stereotypes of the city rag on it, but how many have actually visited it? Personally I loved that city when I came three years ago. Loved it so much I am thinking of moving down there and putting my Urban Studies and Planning degree to good use b/c I want to help rebuild that city. But the politicians need to get off their butts, start handing out rebuilding grants and loans, and implement a god damn redevelopment plan for Orleans Parish. The Bring Back New Orleans commission's proposed redevelopment plan was excellent and should be fully implemented, but we need some damn lawmakers with balls that aren't afraid to make tough decisions. Bush has balls and makes tough decisions (albeit usually not good ones), but he's proven himself useless.

God Bless the people of New Orleans and I wish the best for your recovery.

to the guy above me: sgoldpers ..

Yes.. hurricane hit florida.. and often.. nealy every summer..
BUT .. they are required by law .. to have their houses built for hurricane protection.. we (new orleans) and the rest of the gulf coast dont have that.. for some unknown reason. I have a brother who lives through hurricane every year in florida.. and hardly receives roof damage. and.. Florida is also ABOVE SEA Level. Many Parts of New Orleans is 2 - 9 feet below sea level.

Hurrican Katrina was the WORST natural disaster in the United States... and New Orleans... is FAR from being fixed..
Bush didn't do anything for 4 days.. after the hurricane hit.. 4 days !! ... the Canadian military was here helping us before our own government..

BUSH Has Been Wasting our Time.. Money.. and Lost Soliders in Iraq .. for NOTHING he wont even help his own people

President's, any President's rarely mention their administrations failures while they are telling us how wonderful the state of the union is.

Am I Incognito: I am a liberal and neither I, nor any other Liberal I know has blamed this President for the hurricane. However, I do blame this President for his lack of preparedness and the poor response of Federal agencies (which is indeed a Federal matter) to this disaster. After all he is the head of the Federal government.Like it or not the top executive is indeed ultimately responsible for the performance of the company. President Bush is also responsible for the failure to keep promises HE made to the people down there.

To say anyone is blaming him for the hurricane itself is simply juvenile.

what's unusual to me is that the only people who replaced their score or recommendations approximately greater troops entering into, have been people who watched it final night. remember interior the early days of flicks and television, whilst that they had positioned subliminal messages at the back of what became being watched? truthfully, it particularly is the only reason that i will believe that something suggesting we proceed on the present course, exceedingly on the Bloodiest Day of involved with American provider human beings, has have been given to be brainwashing........

Im not sure it's really an older issue it seemed like last night he talked more about the here and now. As far as I am concerned he talked about the things that were less importanat on whta part of it i watched. Seems like hes becoming a pro of that. Last nights show was just really wierd. did you see that lady in the background with her eyes blinking all crazy.

Why should he? I think most of the Gulf Coast has rebuilt and moved on. Why didn't he mention all those hurricanes that hit Florida the other year? What like 3 or 4 and they hit almost the whole State in the process. Seriously I don't see why he needs to bring this up. We all know it happened. Unless he is specifying lessons learned and applied to FEMA because of the Hurricane then there is no reason to mention it in my opinion.

Katrina is the national nightmare. Everyone's insurance
skyrocketed. No one will ever recover from it, the locals

or anyone else.
