The Democrats have decided, in their infinite wisdom, to give their reaction to the president’s State of the Union address this evening in both English and Spanish. Seems like such a noble and gracious move on their part to include our nations immigrants into the political process. How wonderfully inclusive of them.

But wait just one minute.

Why were the Democrats only giving their speech in English and Spanish. Odd choice, don’t you think? Considering that America is home to millions of immigrants, of all nationalities, why would the Democrats choose just one group over all of the rest?
Oooops…isn’t that a bit…um…discriminating? There are immigrants in our nation of many nationalities but the Democrats feel that only the Hispanic immigrants are worthy of their ’special attention’. That can only be interpreted as blatant discrimination and racial preference balanced. If an American business - or politician - is going to pander to any group other than the American citizen, they should darn well make sure they pander to all of them. And unless the Democrats are willing to give their speech in Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Persian, Russian, German, Italian, and the native languages of all immigrants currently in our nation, they are indeed discriminating based on race.

Does it really matter why the Democrats chose to give their speach in English and Spanish? Yes the majority of the immigrants in this country are Spanish. If you call customer service numbers for something then it will ask if you would like to hear the options either in English or Spanish. It is not discrimination. In other countries you will have the option to either hear or read something in either their language or most likely English. If most immigrants in this country were Greeks, Italians, French, Indian or whichever race besides Spanish then obviously they will transmit information in English and that other main language. How can you possibly say that they are discriminating based on race when these people probably don't care what race or background a person is from. What they probably care about is that they get the votes.

Because as usual they are pandering to the Hispanic vote. They don't care about this country ,they like most politicians only care about money and power.
I don't really find it surprising ,frustrating perhaps but not surprising. This Hispandering has been going on a long long time
by both of the major political party's..Since the Hispanics represent the majority all illegal aliens and a huge percentage of legal immigration.

Seems to me that, aside from English of course, Spanish is the most widely used language in this country. I don't think it has a damn thing to do with discrimination. I think more so that it just wouldn't have been feesable to translate it into every other language on earth.

and if you want my opinion, we live in the United States, we speak English, and if you live here you should learn to speak it. Sorry about your luck if you can't understand.

It sad that it's apparently necessary to point out that Spanish is the most common language spoken in the US after English. It is also a co-official language in a US commonwealth, Puerto Rico.

I am glad that some intelligent people still post questions here.

It is "interesting" because that is the only way that democrats can get a strong showing in elections, by pandering to hispanics, minority groups, and especially illegal aliens.

Great question.

When you go to another country, you speak THEIR language. The official language of America is English, it dosent matter if more people speak spanish (which I dont believe is correct) you still speak the main language.
