Colleges tend to have merrit based scholarships which are based on test scores and your GPA that is tied to the individual college itself. Also, other scholarships out there focus on hobbies, interests, ethnicity, religion, regional, and there is even one scholarship for wearing duct tape to the prom. There are other scholarships out there, too. I will provide other sources to locate some more.

First, fill out the FAFSA form. It will tap into federal, state and college need based financial aid. It is based on your family's income and financial resources. It provides both grants and loans. This is filled out yearly.

Second, current high school students can locate a list of local scholarships at the high school guidance office.

Third, the college financial aid office and website lists private scholarships from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major website will list some, too.

Fourth, the public library has a book listing scholarships including some that are not listed on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. It pretty much is a huge database of scholarships. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on the information entered into a form on its website.

Good luck!
