yeah they make a certain % off of meds. Its sad, pills adventually kill your liver, no matter what type of pill it is, you take anything for to long and it will not only be addicting to your body but it will hurt your main organs, I try and do everything natural, a doctor is quick just to put you on something.

To answer your question:
1. Most physicians prescribe what they think is appropriate for the patient's condition.
2. A lot of patients ask for a lot of pills and some physicians oblige as it is faster to write the prescription than to explain why it would not be appropriate (e.g. antibiotics for viral infections).

I am appalled by the nasty comments of people who have no idea of what they are talking about. Too bad that Y!A does not have a system to verify who is a trained healthcare professional versus just a teenager shooting his mouth off.

kelly h: can you give me any shred of proof about these kickbacks?
brite tiger and TA: how do physicians benefit from writing prescriptions unless they are appropriate and they help the patient?
rebxechc: How do physicians make a certain % of drugs (unless they are directly selling some supplements and crap)???

Fact: As a physician you do not get ANY money from any insurance company for writing or not writing a prescription. I ask any of the answerers who believe in this kickback scheme to provide any proof about that.
What is the billing code for writing a prescription???

Doc8: You are very correct about good people being chased away from Y!A. Why would anybody spend their valuable time to help some fellow citizen (completely free of charge) just to get attacked with utter nonsense and nasty speculations.

To unwarranted attacks on the medical profession from you and others on this site. I bet you are one of those who demand a shot for a head cold, and Vicodin for a bruised knee. Most of the qualified professionals have been run off this site already. MD

Yes, doctors these days want to prescribe medication for anything. They benefit from giving prescriptions. But unfortunately the patient doesnt always benefit from it.
