The smoke can cause an infection on the open sore.

Smoking may cause a dry socket - this is a break down of the blood supply to the area. Smoking also slows down the healing process. Inhaling on a cigarette can also cause the blood clot that forms to dislodge and cause bleeding.

I know its hard not to smoke especially when you are told you can't, but its in the best interest of healing.

not just smoking...any kind of sucking for the first couple of days creates a suction in your mouth and can hurt your mouth. also, smoke is very dirty and it can cause infection to an open wound (like having a tooth pulled)

you can pull the blood clot out of the hole and get what they call a dry socket. It is very painful. Plus smoking dries out your mouth and that is not good either.

You aren't supposed to suck on anything. That can cause the scab to get pulled loose, causing dry sockets. This includes sucking on a cigarette.

you shouldn't suck on anything including a cigarrette or even a straw. It can cause the socket to dry out and become very painful

when you take a drag off a cig you are distending your jaws (ow), pulling fluids (& clots from healing wounds making you bleed more) & introducing polution into the wound that can slow down healing.
