# 1: 5lbs per week is too much, unless you are 100lbs overweight. Even with that you will eventually hit a plateau.

#2: Shoot for a safe 2-3 lbs per week.

#3: There is no magic answer for everone. I am over 40 years old. My metabolism is much slower than it was 20 years ago. What I've learned is no matter how much crap I cut out of my diet I will not lose much weight. I have to exercise.

#4: Be truthful about your habits. Keep an honest journal of what you eat, how much you eat, and how much activity you include in your day. In one week you will be able to see what you REALLY need to modify.

a little over 2000 a day - which is about what average person would eat in a day. In other words, unless you're really cramming in the calories you would have to starve yourself, which ain't a good idea. You may actually lose 5 pounds the first week, but it will be mostly water loss. Shoot for about 5 pounds a month.

One pound of fat equals 3400 calories. Stay on a 1600 calorie diet and do 1-2 hours of cardio and weight training every day, with one day of rest.
