Why is that people who play hard to get are so attractive?

From my perspective, if I like a women and she plays hard to get, it makes me want her even more. It's like she is making me work for her attention.
Why is it that people who play hard to get are so much more appealing?

Because men are hardwired to like the chase. Back in the day, we didn't have this instant-gratification society, and men had to work HARD at that which they wanted, whether it was hunting, fishing, finding food, making tools, and proving themselves worthy to women.

However, there's a difference between "hard to get" and "No, she's REALLY not interested and she's telling you so." I've seen men pursue uninterested women past all reason, to such an extent where they were accused of sexual harassment. I myself had two separate men try to make passes at me (when I was committed to someone else, mind) and both dropped the bomb of "I love it when a woman plays hard to get."

It's a fine line between "She's interested, but she's a challenge" and "No, she wants nothing to do with you." If you're the type who really enjoys challenging women, more power to you, but if someone puts her foot down and tells you to BACK OFF, you need to respect that as well.

Let's see, rule of thumb:

If she's single and carrying a copy of "The Rules" in her purse, she's playing hard to get.

If she says, "NO, I'm not interested" for over a month, then she's saying NO. If she says "No, I have a boyfriend/fiance/husband," reply "Yes, MA'AM."

Attractive women get too much attention from would be boyfriends. And to avoid getting swamped by amorous men, they usually develop a habit of rejecting such men.

Attractive and appealing women must behave in a hard-to-get way with amorous men in order to keep their sanity, their privacy, and their normal way of life.

Playing hard to get doesn't cause the attraction. It's the woman's attractiveness that creates the situation where she has to play hard to get.

A woman who 'plays hard to get' for want of a better word is not necessarily more attractive in the physical sense. I would say that she is more in tune with what she wants and also confident in that she can get what or who she wants. Therefore you guys see this confident woman and that is what makes her appealing to you. If she is good looking as well, then that is a bonus, but as ever, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Playing hard to get is a way of making yourself unobtainable and some people find it attractive (you seem to be one of them)
As soon as you get what you want you find something else you can't have and chase after that instead.

Scientific: challenges raise dopamine levels in the brain. Conquering that challenge raises it even more, so the reward/payoff is huge. Human nature is work-for-it related. Humans instinctively don't like what's given to them, they have a biological need to work for it, because working for it raises that dopamine. And dopamine feels gooood.
