listen to her! Trust me, she will drop little hints. Ask her family and friends. Try and find a ring that screams HER! When you find the right ring you will know. Don't just buy a ring because it is cheap or because YOU think it's pretty. My fiance paid attention to everything thing that I ever said about jewlery and got me the most amazing ring. It is beautiful!! It is something she will hopefully wear for a LONG time, make sure it is something she will love as long as she will you. I was so afraid of getting an ugly ring (may seem shallow), but too me, if a guy proposes with a ring that I feel is ugly, then too me it feels like he doesn't really know me and hasn't really been paying attention to me. So to wrap it up, just pay attention to the style of jewlery she already has, listen when she says she likes something, do your reasearch and pay attention to the little things and you should be fine!

Just an FYI because guys do not think about this type of stuff

If you get a set, meaning an engagement ring with matching wedding band, BE SURE that the wedding band is a band that will still look good if she doesnt wear the engagement ring. Alot of women dont wear their engagement rings all the time, especially after having a baby (it can scratch the baby, get poop and spit up all over it) so you want her wedding band to be able to stand on its own. (dont get one that is cut to sit around the stone)

When my husband went to pick out my ring...we had never shopped together, because he knew my style and what I usually wear on my fingers, nothing. He picked out a 1/3 K diamond in a single setting with a 24 k gold band. I loved it.

Look at what she does with her hand. What does she wear, is she a stylish person always with the trend, or is she a simple gal like me? If you want something that is different and unique only for her you could try a custom jeweler, they can help you will making a ring just for her.

This is a customer jeweler in my area, maybe you are close and would like to check it out. My dad had a whole set (ring, earings, necklace) made for my mom and it was beautiful and took her breath away.

Best of Luck, I hope she says yes!!

Conflict free diamonds are the best way to go - find info on line or ask your jeweller. Go for a single stone in a simple setting - less clutter is better and much more classy.

Always buy the best diamond you can affoard - hopefully it will be on that finger for a long time. And choose clarity over size. A big diamond might look impressive, but if it is flawed, then it won't sparkle.

solitaires are your best bet and can be put w/ anything when choosing a wedding band. Princess cut and Round are the most traditional right now. Marques are as well but do not get the brilliance that you will get from a Princess or Round. Go to any jewelry store and they can give you any info you need on diamonds and how to choose. From my recent experience of looking for a diamond, one of the things we took into consideration for buying, is the warranties. Kay Jewelers or JB Robinson (same company) has the best warranties. Whatever you do..... DON'T go to Walmart!!

get the best you can afford, and that she likes.

I have big hands so a tiny delicate ring will look great on me.
recently my boyfriend and I went window-shopping for engagement rings, and though economy is something we pay attention to....there is this great ring from a reputable jewelry store. it is a small, simple band solitaire with a small but outshining diamond...when I tried it on (it was actually my correct size) I modeled the ring all around the store...the diamond lit up the whole store! I fell in love with it, and I think my boyfriend will pick this one for me. by the way...he loved it too!

again, get the best you can afford, and that she will love.
good luck and congrats

My fiance didn't have a clue about what I like in jewelry because he had never seen me wear any. He let me pick out my own rings because, as he put it, you're the one that has to wear it forever. If you want to surprise her, maybe you should have a coworker or someone pull up some jewelry sites and get a feel for what SHE likes.

YOu should first find out what type of rings SHE likes , like the color/material (yellow gold, white gold, platinum), the # of stones (solitare or more than 1 stone) & the thickness of the band. There are so many factors in choosing one that you wnat to make sure it's something she likes, after all, she's the one who will be wearing it for the rest of her life

Ask her friends what she likes but make sure they dont tell her. If she knows ask her what she likes, type of metal stone ect. I just told my boyfriend that I hated yellow gold and he picked out a beautiful platnum dimond ring.
