I work in a kitchen and this past week my boss asked me to clean the hood, this is the second time I have done this job in the last two months.
The grill area where I have to crouch to get up under the hood to clean is hot, I have a cardboard box laying across the grill but each time now i have had a bad bruise and my leg feels "cooked" for a lack of a better description. Any Dr's out there could i be like roasting my leg? I'm on there like ten fifteen minutes at a time till I have to cool off and change water. Help.

It's called getting burned.

Edit:

Also, it is *not* like getting a sunburn. A sunburn is UV radiation burn, which can cause permanent cellular damage long-term.

Yes, you are probably getting burned (aka cooked) by the stove. (For what it's worth, the process of getting a tan by the sun is the same as broiling a piece of meat). I would try putting more insulation between yourself and the hot part. If you keep it up long enough your skin will toughen up and you won't feel the heat so much. (Look at a professional chef's hands, they are covered in callouses, but I've seen some of these guys grab plates right from the oven)

The damage done is most likely only skin deep and not permanent. As long as you're not suffering any actual burns you should be okay.

To answer your question simply, yes, you can cook all or part of yourself. Ever get a sunburn? You cooked that part of your body to a standardized "degree", first, second, or third degree burn. If you like your steak rare, say "cool center" you probably will have to give the steak a first or second degree burn! Not healthy to cook your bod!

I do this to steak:

Take a knife, cut yourself, peel apart the meat and see if it's bloody. If it's really bloody, put your legs back in to cook some more.
