The best way is to hire a P.I. for this. They will follow the paper trail and should be able to find out faster than most anyone else.

is this an event that happened in england ? if so should be quite easy to trace (i dont know about the rest of the world)
all uk births/marriages/deaths records are recorded from 1837 so your first step would be to look for a match born of the name you have (bear in mind that she may be recorded under a different surname for some reason) the records are set in quaters jan/feb/mar etc to make it eaiser if you have any idea of birth year. You would be onto a winner if you find the correct mothers name on the birth certificate (being your grandmothers name) this is going to be a very long task if all you have is the name of you dads sister and no other info. I suggest that you contact a geneologist who would be able to help you there are plenty online and i have used them many times and they are very good. You could start your on search on the uk births marriage and deaths register or you can search records via the mormons church (who do not normally charge) good luck

Start with finding her birth certificate. If you know what county she was born in, Go visit the health dept. Then follow up with public records identifying any institutions that might have taken unwanted children during that time.

My Dad found his biological father after 50 years. All he had was a name. I believe he contacted a Mormon organization. I'm not sure what organization it was but I know that Mormons have extensive records of people.

in google...type in- social security death index, if she was born in the USA. I got 6 results based on that name.

I found my foreign-born grandfather just by typing his name into Google.

Good Luck.
