We have actually been starting a search for carpet for our children's playroom. We also don't want something really nice, as we know it will get ruined. I wouldn't reccommend getting too cheap of stuff, unless you plan on moving soon, as it will get worn down really fast. At Home Depot, the cheapest carpet I saw was about 60 cents a square foot, which would be about $240, not including taxes and I am not sure if that includes installation. Otherwise, the average low end price seemed to be about $2.40ish a square foot. After HD we went to a place called Carpet Mills, just a regular carpet store, and we found a much better deal. We discovered that there, the salespeople were willing to bargain with us. We don't need installation, so he was able to offer us some pretty plush carpet for about $1.70 a square foot. Naturally, installation would up that cost a bit. I would check with local carpet stores first, before Home Depot. Carpet is oddly expensive, so I would expect to pay over $300 for the lowest quality stuff.

It shouldn'i run far after you tack it down ! (sorry)
I've used the nice new modern indoor-outdoor or commercial carpets for that kind of room & been very happy with it. It should be affordable, probably $10 or $12 a sq yard, not sure, but I'd go to a reputable carpet store! I used HD for my new home -- it was supposed to be quality and I paid BigBucks for it & it was ruined in 2yrs!!! I had my previous carpet 10+yrs and it still looked new !!! I bought it from a long-standing local carpet store. Stay away from BigBox dealers!!!

carpet is now typical sold by the square foot and you might want to get the better discounts at lowes or home depot. call around. then expect to pay $2 to $5 per sq. foot. so 400 sq. feet x $3 per square feet is $1200. (400 x 3 = 1200). i would not use old nasty dust and germ collecters and us some of the high-end lamainate like pergo. it looks great and easy to install and is damn near industrable. about the same rates, but i would choose perfgo they are the oldest company and i hvave experience ith them. iron clad guarantee. then you could add an interesting oriental carpet here and there which can be taken outside and really cleaned. suit yourself. peace and please name me the winner for points. i am a part-time installer for home depot.

I've never seen carpet run. I've seen it creep in areas smaller than and larger than 400 sq.ft. And you gotta wonder -- how can it do that with all that stuff sitting on it. Now I have seen a carpet roll. But not very far really, about 12 feet.

for about the same area we just installed carpet for around $800.00 The major expense was the installation. But it looks great. we got it from Lowe's and they sub out the installing. It was a Berber and you may look for discontinued buys.

well I work a freight company Southeastern Freightlines and when doing a free rate quote online you can do it yourself on the internet or call in. We measure it by the square yard and that is determined how much it would be.
