only the kind you cook and eat. not the instant.
'old fashion'
absolutely for a few reasons.
# 1 whole grains make you feel full longer
#2 fiber and minerals good for you
#3 low in fat, and cholesterol removing
anything that keeps you from eating donuts, or sugary cereals for breakfast is going to be a good thing.
pair that up with some skim milk , a few strawberries, and a 6 oz glass of 'real' orange juice and you have a complete meal.

Oatmeal is great and if you want to try something different try getting some real museli. What i get is made up of rolled oats, dried fruit and nuts with some oat flakes as well. You can have it either hot (i just enough milk with it to completely cover it and then nuke it) or you can also eat it cold without cooking. I actually prefer it cold but whatever you like. I know extra sugar isn't recommended..but if i feel like having it a bit sweeter i add a bit of raw unprocessed honey.

I would suggest an oatmeal high in protein as well as fiber. There actually is one out there specifically for weight control. I tried the banana bread flavor but I didn't like it. I suggest lowfat yogurt, Special K bars, fruit, whole grain products etc. for weight loss ideas when eating breakfast. Breakfast time is the time to eat the biggest meal because you will burn the most calories during the morning/afternoon. You want to limit your calories the most at dinnertime. Just remember that whatever you eat you need to control your portion sizes...

Absolutely! I lost 70 pounds and ate oatmeal every morning. It was also the only meal that filled me up and gave me enough energy to work in a steel foundry and last until first coffee. I must admit it was tough eating it in the summer though, but I sloughed though knowing it was good for me.

oatmeal made from whole oats is a GREAT food item to permanently include in a healthy diet. it is truly a "healthy" cereal unlike Special K which is a joke as it's highly processed.
I get most of my daily fiber from whole oats, lentils and beans...

Absolutely. Next to the sweet potato, oats are probably the best complex carb you can eat.

yes. if made properly, oatmeal can be REALLY good for you. you just have to watch what you put ontop of it that can really be bad. no extra butter or sugar or anything like that. i like to sprinkle some cinnamon on it and add some dried fruits to help bring a little sweetness to the mix without adding real sugar. dried cherries are good and so are raisins. good luck!!

Yes it would because oatmeal is chock-full of fiber. Fiber attracts fat lipids and when the fiber is removed from your body through pooing, the fat goes with it.
