there is no such average number as it depends solely on the amount of lean body mass that a person has.

lean muscle tissue is biologically active 24 hours a day. the more muscle mass a person has the more calories they burn over a 24 hr period. the more muscle mass that a person has the less the metabolism decreases during sleep.

this is why when dieting the focus should be on reducing maximum amounts of body while while preserving as much lean body mass as possible.

Not enough information to answer this question.

To determine the answer, you have to make some assumptions about the average person.

Is an average person male or female? How much does s/he weigh? How much does s/he eat? How much does s/he exercise---what kind and how long? How many hours does the average person sleep?

For a given person at a given weight, you factor the basal metabolic rate then add to it based on the other factors.

Go to this website below. They give you drop down tool bars to choose your sex/weight/height and activities then you will be able to receive an accurate count of how many calories you burn in a day.

Hope that helps!
