What major impact do oil spills create? What was the most devastating oil spill that has ever happened and what type of wild life did it effect? Are they bad over a short period of time or over the long run?

It poisons, suffocates and exposes animals to the elements.
They are all devastating and all are bad.
We mostly hear about shore birds being the predominant victims of oil spills... we don't hear much about the little creatures that inhabit the shore lines.

I would suggest on going to comcast.net and typing in the search bar affects of an oil spill on marine life and it tell you there. There are many ways that it can affect marine life.

It raises the price of crude oil which in turn raises the price of gasoline. This reduces the number of boaters on the water for economic reasons, which will actually reduce the risk of a marine animal being hurt by the propeller.

So to answer you question, it is in reality beneficial to the marine life.

First, take some motor oil and pour it over your hand. Next, drink about a cup of it. You should have answer in a matter of minutes as you try to go about your daily life.
