i was born and raised in the Bay Area and moved to San Diego 6 years ago for college and stayed afterwards b/c I love it down here. The weather doesn't compare to anywhere else in North America. I don't know what it's like in LA/OC; but I think SD is a little different b/c we don't have that Hollywood/celebrity or Orange County WASP culture here. I think the people in SD are very nice and friendly and I see locals always trying to help tourists out with questions or suggestions. I think people are less pretentious here than in the Bay Area and keep it real. As for the smog, that's not a problem here. The only beaches with pollution problems are near the border. There are so many different things to do and Las Vegas, Mexico, and AZ are all close by. And yes we are more agressive drivers and we do drive faster and I love that. I can't stand driving on the freeways in the Bay Area anymore, they don't understand the concept of the Fast Lane or can't comprhend the sign "Slower Traffic Keep Right". Southern CA can be a great place to a crappy place to live depending on your location and what you like.

Southern California

In what regard?

Southern California is a beautiful area. The weather is nice pretty much year round. It has wonderful beaches although now they are more and more unswimable from polution. But they are still nice to walk on. There's disneyland and sea world as well as several famous zoo's. There's hollywood which can be a plus or a minus depending on your view.

You also have the option of going to the desert or up into the mountains as well as the beach within a short drive which is nice.

Housing is hard to come by and VERY expensive. So many southern californians are looking at moving. This dosn't really drop the prices or increase the availablilty though because there are so many young families looking for housing and renting.

Politics are very liberal in the state even though the SoCal area is more conservative so it can be quite exasperating at times if you are a conservitive.

Hope that helps.

I live in So Cal now and, honestly, I can't stand it. I'm moving in a couple of weeks. The people here are arrogant, ignorant and ruthlessly self-centered. The traffic is terrible, living expenses high and air quality bad. Oh, and did I mention the people? And for all of the people who say "It's so beautiful here," I say this: "Go somewhere else. Anywhere else." Most of Southern California, even the "nice" parts, look like crappy strip malls. The ocean is reasonably pleasant if you ignore the air pollution and the fact that most of the year swimming in the water is hazardous to your health. I've lived in nice places and not-so-nice places, and most have some sort of beauty. L.A. is the exception. Hideous.

Talking Travel: Smoggy, gave me headaches. Drivers are rude. People as a majority rude/snobby. Stick to the beaches....but then sharks....

Personally: I think ALL of CA. should drop into the ocean next earthquake. It is a drain on the Insurance Industry to rebuild over and over in a place everyone knows is prone to distruction (the whole place resides on a major fault line). As for the people, well.....they need to stop influencing other states with their politics.

I grew up in So cal. The town I grew up in is very nice (Thousand Oaks) but way too expensive. I love the whole Cali feel. It is not really something that one can understand from the outside looking in. I would not choose to live in SoCal again due mainly to the damn traffic!

I love it. Been here for over 45 yrs. It's not perfect but pretty darn close. Lots of sunshine, good beaches, ski areas, lakes, etc. Could use a little less traffic though. Could use even less illegals.

If SoCal could eradicate the illegals and the gangs, it would be Utopia!
