I think if you are a smoker and you are not exposing anybody else to the toxins in your cigarettes then it is fine. Go ahead and smoke away on the cancer sticks.
If there is another person involved who is not a smoker they have the right to a healthy respiratory system. Regardless of who's house it is I think people have a responsibility to look out for the well-being of others within their home. Children are the biggest victims of smokers. I know because I had to inhale second hand smoke for 17 years. Years after I moved out my parents quit their habit (each of them smoked 2 1/2 packs a day)...That's great for them but it doesn't help me. I have asthma and recurrent bronchitis and pneumonia...
Think of it this way....people who consume alcohol have a responsibility to keep people safe by not drinking and driving. Don't smokers have an equal responsibility to others by keeping their second hand smoke to themselves???

If it is their home than they need not justify anything. Smokers have all the right in the world to smoke in their own home.

As a smoker, I still have to agree....I do not smoke in my house, nor would I let anyone else. The smell gets in your clothes, your hair, furniture, everything.....plus my cats would hate me if I did....smoking should be outlawed.....maybe that would help a lot of people quit. I am in the process of quitting now, it is hard, but I will make it thru! There is NO justification of smoking whatsoever....I started and I wish I hadnt, but it is a HARD thing to quit...it is an addiction that takes a lot of will power to not do it! Good luck to any other smokers who are quitting!!

I am a smoker but I would never smoke in my home. I have a husband and child in my home, that's my number one reason. Also, I smoked in my first apartment. While I was moving to another apartment and I smelt the smoke on my couch while it was outside, I swore I would never do it again. I never realized how bad it smelt until that moment.

I smoke outside only for the fact that I am the only smoker in the house and it's out of respect for those who don't smoke.....Now my car, that's another story.. hahaha!

I am a smoker and I smoke in my house...but I own my house. And my fiance smokes too. When I lived with others, I abided by their wishes. When you live with people, it's about making everyone in the house happy and comfortable, regardless of topic.

If you own your home, you can do what you like. (If you're renting it's a different story.) However, if you live with other people, you have to respect their right to breathe unpolluted air.
Also, you need to be aware of where your second-hand smoke is going. I don't believe it's "proper" to, for example, smoke next to an open window where the smoke goes into your neighbor's house.

I don't smoke in my house just because my hubby doesn't smoke and it's not fair to him to have to deal with the smoke and the smell. I do smoke in my car though.
I do try to be respectful of non smokers when they're around me....why can't they try and be respectful of me?

I don't smoke, I'm glad people can no longer smoke in bars or public places, but what do I care if they smoke in their house. There is no reason for them not to be allowed to. Unless it is a rental or they have young children in the house. I'd rather them stink up there house and stuff then smoke around me. It is up to them and their family members to decide where they can smoke.
