i think if you took a nice picture together and made a scrap book or photo album for the future.

u r trying to hard. ur son will be happy with anything u give. just have a nice birthday party and take lots of pictures. a nice new stuffed animal would be nice.
i like the idea about the bond. when he gets older he would really appreciate that. that would be like a first birthday gift that he will remember when he's 18.

When a child is 1 year old he don't know what a gift is,you are trying to hard. I know we showered our boy with gifts when he was 1 but he didnt even play with most of the things he got. I bought a lot ofclothes cause they start growing like crazy. Get him an activity table, those are always fun or the electronic learning pads from leap frog so he begins learning early,

Well, Its hard, cause you want to go out and buy all this stuff for your kid, But I mean they are 1. They will not play with anything but wrapping paper really. And you dont want to be one of those parents who go out and spend all this money on their kid. My daughter is 4, And I make that mistake every year. You dont realize between everything they get from family and friends. Its just too much stuff. They don't end up playing with barely any of it. Clothes and learning things are the best. Just buy a few little things. THey will never remember, You dont want your kid growing up being greedy and selfish!!

Not at all! My son will be 1 on friday and we still haven't decided on what to get him. Although my initial thought was to buy him a red wagon! It'll be fun to actually pull him along instead of holding him all the time. But now he just started walking....so we're still not sure. How about making something....someone suggested to me a time capsule would be neat. That way when he's older he can look at it. If I think of some more ideas I'll let you know! Good Luck!

Lots and lots of attention.
Not much else translates to him.
But a few age marked toys would be okay. Maybe some clothes.

may be fun to make a memory box of his fist b-day
A local newspaper, a CD of pictures from that day
a letter from you about how he has changed your life, and what special milestones he has to this point, fill it with any thing meaningful from his day and seal it up to be reopened when he turns 11, 21 etc. with each opening you can add more goodies, to capture each of these days in your sons life.

Give him a savings bond or open up a CD for him. 1 is too young to remember what they get.
