When you went to the IRS website and clicked on free file, it gave you the option to choose from a company to file with, or let them guide you to a company, correct? I can't speak for all the companies to choose from, but I did freefile using HRBLOCK and did it online and was not charged anything. However, this is only free for your federal return NOT STATE. HRBLOCK offered to file my state for me for 24.95 which I opted not to do, as I can do it myself for free. You should not have been charged anything if you went through the http://www.irs.gov website and chose a company through there, unless you filed your state taxes as well. Hope that helps.
