When you hear "fear God", a better way to put it would be to hold Him in reverence. If you have a relationship with God, there is really nothing to fear.

Denard!!!! Wtf???
Did this man this petty human say what I just think he did? What exactly are you saying? Is it.....
1.The existence of the creator of the Universe is based on whether or not Denard wants to worship him?
2. The Great Architect of the Universe existence is in question because Denard Doesn`t want to worship a jealous "Being?"
*By your logic Gods existence or "Being" as you put it is on hold until your mind accepts him? Are you not a mere mortal a petty human soul or are you life itself?I guess by calling God a "Being" your mind is able to completey picture his magnificense and frame it with human limitations. That is to say I dont like that Car because its big and slow. Or that person because she`s ugly and fat. Listen impetent people cannot vaguely begin to picture nor frame or understand the complex magnificence of He that IS.
Denard do you believe I exist? Yes why because I`m talking to you?Do you believe the earth exist because you breathe its air on this dimension?Does you MOM exist because you can hear her voice and touch her humanly skin? Where all figments of your imagination FOOL. None of us or this will cross the path with you into death.None of us or this breathed the breath of life.Only God exist for it is He that breathes life to all of us mere mortals.
To all. To fear God is not a question that requires and answer. It is only the beginning to understanding and coming to peace with life itself.
Can you walk without legs or Do advanced algerbra without knowing how to add or subtract?
A person that doesn`t fear the creator all has no clue. Its impossible not to fear such magnificent power which persides above yet within all things. To not fear means you understand nothing.
The question is not does God exist or do you believe in God.
The question is do you exist to God? If you do your something a soul if you dont your just flesh and bones driven by brain impulses rigid with emotions doing nothing more than waiting to DIE.

We tend to only think of God as Jesus who was beaten and crucified on a cross for our sins. We forget the all powerful, all consuming fire, creator of all God who is so powerful that all flesh, angels and beings whether in the heavens, on the earth, in the earth or in the sea will bow to Almighty God. We forget that God. We forget the God who is able to place us in a Lake of fire for all eternity. We only want to think of the loving, kind, sweet, wonderful creator who loves us more than even His created angels. The God that holds our very life in His hand and can take our breath away whenever He wants. This same God will not tolerate sin regardless of the tolerance which man demands. We want to think God tolerates everything, but God does not. God knows everything and nothing can be hidden from Him. As long as we are capable of sin we must fear God. Reverence and awe always, but fear also.

It is said, familiarity breeds contempt. If we lose our "fear" of God, we begin to take God for granted. Some might recast the word as "awe". The point is to preserve a sense of proportion. God is omniscient. We cannot pretend to know the mind and will of God. God and I are not a "team". We have to keep checking our attitudes and behaviors to see if they are conforming to God's standards, instead of presuming we have God's unconditional "approval".
God loves all of creation and readily forgives all sin because we are ignorant, weak and fearful. But faith without a reasonable sense of oneself, like children under an indulgent parent, leads to arrogance and the delusion that we can do no wrong. We discipline our faith with humility, to prevent being "disciplined" unexpectedly later on.

While God is benevolent, God is also just. Because He is just, there are repercussions for our decisions/actions. Because He is benevolent, God has given us a way to avoid those repercussions and come back into a good relationship with Him.
The Bible tells us about God's nature. People tend to focus on just one area, but there are many, including his just nature.
I hope this helps.

Dear Janet: First, the word fear has different meanings. Fear is not just anxiety or upsetting emotion. It actually has a definition of awe and reverence toward God !
What causes fear of God is our coming to understand that, hypothetically, we "stand below" God, due to our Knowledge being less than His ! As we progress in our spiritual learning, we see His many levels of Knowledge. We learn of His Truths, and the more we learn the more in awe we stand. Love in us develops toward Him, as we learn. At the same time, we are aware of the gap between Him and ourselves. Learning causes us to surrender ourselves to His love, more and more. Yet, in the gap between us is the possibility of falling. We, in our ever growing, and more devoted, love for Him "fear" our lack of perfection. And so, the fear of God is NOT due to His NATURE ; but, rather it is within us as reverence and awe toward Him, and our own "fear" of failing Him (which occurs in people spiritually advanced). None of it is harmful. It is ALL intertwined with our developing love for Him.
On our spiritual road, we walk straight outward - into His glory.
Best regards, Lana

I once had a co-worker ask me this same question when we were having a Bible discussion. As it happened, the day before, she had said something to me and then came back later on in the day to clarify some matters. She told me: "I was afraid I had hurt your feelings." I assured her she had not. She felt much better.
It is similar with God. Those who love him do not ever want to displease him or hurt his feelings. So fearing the true God means we fear to hurt him or displease him. We fear disobeying him. It is a manifestation of our love. That is all.

God is benevolent indeed, but Satan is not. The fear you are talking about is the fear of falling into sin and playing in the hands of the devil.
