I got it on freecycle. It looks great but there is a dog and cat smell on it and a urine odor. Will I have to get rid of it? I don't have pets.

Hi there...consider Nature's Miracle Just For Cats found worldwide at most pet stores. It's an enzymatic neutralizer which works by breaking down urine proteins by thoroughly soaking the areas affected and allowing to air dry. Repeated applications are necessary for heavily soiled areas. Mattresses will require extra solution so consider buying the Gallon size to achieve the results.

We've tested nearly all enzyme neutralizers available in the marketplace for our exotic cats which have stronger urine than domestic cats and found that Nature's Miracle Just for Cats has always worked the best.

There are some great methods to remove the scent from things such as this. One of them is called "Nature's Miracle" and can be found at any pet store, including PetSmart and Petco. I've worked with this before when my elderly cat had accidents on furniture and my new cats can't smell anything.

Another idea is something I just came across a few months ago and is available at most Wal-Mart stores. It's a bag of volcanic rocks! Sounds weird, I know - but the volcanic rocks within this back actually absorb odors trapped within fabric as well as in the air. We've been using it in our utility room where all 3 litter boxes are kept and even the stinkiest of odors from a nasty cat dump gets absorbed! I can't even smell the natural "odor control" smell of the Tidy Cats "Small Spaces" litter we use anymore after about the first 10-15 minutes of pouring it into their boxes fresh. The bags are about $3 each and are in the pet area.

I've posted a few times before regarding this problem so feel free to scan through my answers to similar questions. I got a mix-it-yourself formula on ebay for a few bucks and it does work. I had a cat that peed on my rug several times in the same corner...I used the stuff I made and the smell was gone later that day.

Febreze does not work. It does have have the enzymes to destroy the urine crystals.

Go to your local grocery store and get a carpet cleaning machine. Use the attachments to clean the futon. Don't try to lay it out and vacuum it.
They have special shampoo for pet odor. It's in a red bottle.
They usually keep it with the cleaners.
