I was thinking about it myself, and I was just wondering out of curiosity. I found one in Michigan, that seems just awesome. I want to go visit it this summer. The website for the one I've been looking at forever is www.tattoo-school.com. If anyone has, tell me if you still think it was a good idea. Please also include how you are doing now. Thanks much!

Someone asked if I have some artistic ability. To answer that, I do have it. Originally I was going to be a artist (painter), but I found tattoos are my real passion.

Why can't you graduate from the school then do an apprentiship? I think its a good idea.

"tattoo schools" are taboo in the industry. would you let someone who went to a 3 week course and got a certificate put a needle in you? i wouldn't. most artists go through an apprenticeship that can last up to, if not longer than 2 years. they work in the industry, they learn first hand from long time veterans, and that is the best way. something like tattooing cannot be rushed and squeezed into a such a short amount of time with no real experience or pratice. i say no to tattoo schools, infact i have never met a tattoo artist (and i know a lot, trust me) that agree with them. i've even read many tattoo artist's views on them online and no one likes the idea. if you want to tattoo you will learn 100x more with an apprenticeship and be 100x more respected. everyone needs to pay their dues. good luck.

I don't see a tattoo school adding up to good old fashioned apprenticing. Most good artist already have the ability to draw well, I think that school is really just for people who want to learn how to, not how to do it well. Most artists will teach you little tricks and secrets and give you lots of knowledge that I can see the school passing by. Plus, I don't think its enough time to become proficient in tattooing.

I would pass on it if I were you.

do you have any natural artistic ability? most of the best tattooers are already artists of some sort. my artist was already good at drawing and instead of going to any kind of school he just got an apprenticeship and is now a phenomenal tattoo artist but he draws and paints as well. i'm not sure if a "tattoo school" would be a good thing or not. tattoo trade secrets are highly guarded and i would be leery of participating. check into it tho.

Most of the tattoo artists I know learned by gaining good old fashioned experience. Not to mention they were good at drawing and or painting to begin with. I wish I could do it.
