Rdenig, I popped back to click on my own link & saw your answer... I can think of at least one 500mm zoom lens: the $1000 Sigma 50-500mm 'Bigma'. It's well thought of. (Not in the same league as a fixed focal length Canon or Nikon, but hey.)
It also turns out that Tamron has a 200-500mm zoom for $800. And of course, Phoenix has a p.o.s. 500mm zoom.

There is no such thing as a 500mm 'zoom' lens. A 500mm lens is of fixed focal length. The only advantage of a mirror lens is that it is likely to be way, way cheaper.

Wow! Canon shoppers truly rock. I think of the minimum distance of those lenses to be out of outdoor altogether so taking a image of the canine's nostril wading interior the pool could be out of the question. reflect lenses have been made to diminish the cost of glass and steel. they're familiar with telescopes for being easy-weight and short. In pictures, they're greater of a nuisance. they're difficult to concentration regardless of a tripod and you're able to in many situations want greater easy into it than what its single aperture can furnish. maximum remarkable is to purchase a fastened focal lens that equals the reflect lens you like. you're able to have the comparable pulling power with greater administration on the aperture. value? of course greater. Zoom lenses have been made to save bag area and don't carry out as properly as fastened focals returned because of the fact of constrained aperture settings. Zoom lenses are extraordinarily much consistently slower than fastened focals. as properly, because of the fact of their layout obstacles, larger selection zooms are absolute to be afflicted by image distortion on the extremes. between your 2 alternatives, the zoom could be an better decision however the cost could be too prohibitive particularly for Canon. My longest lens is a 400mm. If i want greater, I walk.
