18, because it allows you to go overdrawn, and incur a lot of charges, and that's credit which you cant have until you are 18. Can get a Solo card from the Halifax from 12 as it only allows you to spend money that's in your account.

What others are saying is right. A switch card is also a cheque guarantee card and is only issued with a current account at the bank. These are only allowed to over 18's. You can open an account at any bank or building society and get a debit card with the account that allows you to withdraw at cash machines or buy stuff on the internet etc.

Natwest let you have a switch card at 16 if you are earning £400+ a month. But you can have a Solo card from the age of 11 with a natwest account.. which basically does the same thing except it doesn't double up as a cheque guarantee card.

I think it's 18 as it can somtimes be used as a cheque guarantee card and for that you have to be 18

18 for a proper one
but you can get one when your 10 which does the same thing
go into a bank for somthing proper
