If I don't shave my legs within a week, I get lots of inflamed, painful, and large pimples. When I do shave, the inflamation goes down quickly and they heal within a day. Any ideas what's going on and how I can avoid it? This has been happening for over five years, so I don't think it has anything to do with a reaction to soap, lotions, laundry detergents, climate, etc.

They are ingrown hairs. When you shave the hair on your legs you leave a sharp angle on the tip of the hair, this can bend into your skin and as it grows into your skin it can be quite painful.

When you shave you are opening up the ingrown bumps and cutting the hair again which provides a temporary relief.

Hair folicles on your legs are larger than other parts of your body. They can easily get infected. If it bothers you then shave more often. This happens to me when I don't shave as much in the winter. It's nothing to worry about. You might want to invest in an electric razor if you hate shaving.
